Chapter 6 - The Chaos at the Altar

The music sputtered and died. The string quartet, noticing the tense cluster of security officers and frantic coordinators near the terrace steps, slowly lowered their bows. The murmur of three hundred elite guests subsided into an uneasy, suffocating silence.

Ethan staggered backward, colliding edge-first against a massive, six-tiered cascading champagne tower erected right at the center of the terrace patio. Crystal glasses rattled violently, the golden liquid sloshing over the brims.

'Rachel,' Ethan choked out, his face draining of all color until he looked like a ghost in a tuxedo. 'You have no right to be here. This is a private event—'

'This is not a private event, Mr. Cole,' Rachel announced, her voice carrying effortlessly across the silent courtyard. 'This is an active crime scene involving grand larceny, identity theft, and corporate fraud against Bennett Event Systems.'

Vanessa pushed her way through the gathering crowd of stunned guests, her heavy lace train rustling sharply against the stone. Her expression shifted instantly from bridal euphoria to pure, unadulterated terror. 'Ethan? What is she talking about? What are those police officers doing here?'

'Vanessa, stay back, it's just a minor administrative glitch—' Ethan stammered, raising his hands defensively.

'An administrative glitch?' Rachel cut in sharply, stepping forward and flipping open the legal folder. 'Mr. Cole used stolen corporate credentials to forge digital sponsorship agreements, embezzling over $340,000 of corporate treasury funds to finance this exact wedding, right down to the dress you're wearing, Ms. Vance.'

Vanessa gasped, her hands flying to her mouth. She stared at Ethan in horror. 'You... you told me your venture capital firm funded all of this! You said you were a multimillionaire!'

'I am! We're going to IPO next quarter—' Ethan lied desperately, his voice cracking as the collective gaze of three hundred high-society witnesses pinned him to the spot.

'There is no IPO, Ethan,' a clear, commanding voice rang out from the grand entrance archway.

Every head turned simultaneously. Walking down the stone steps into the courtyard was Claire Bennett. She wore a pristine, impeccably tailored ivory pantsuit that mirrored the color of Vanessa’s wedding dress, yet radiated an aura of absolute, untouchable power.
