Chapter 13 - The Auditor's Ghost

The raid on Vanguard Global’s headquarters was swift and devastating. By midnight, federal agents had seized all servers, freezing Vanguard’s global trading operations. Richard Sterling was arrested on live television.

In my office, Marcus Vance placed a printed status report on my desk. “Vanguard’s stock dropped 42% in after-hours trading, Evelyn. Their board is holding an emergency vote right now to oust Sterling.”

“Don't buy them out yet, Marcus,” I said calmly. “Let them crumble further. When their stock hits rock bottom next week, we’ll acquire their logistics division for pennies on the dollar.”

Later that evening, my phone buzzed with an unknown number. It was Adrian, calling from a payphone at the correctional facility.
