Chapter 9 - The Web of Deception

The depth of Mark's betrayal was breathtaking.
"This is grand larceny and felony forgery," Daniel Mercer said, reviewing the forged document with a magnifying glass. "He didn't just assault you at dinner, Naomi. He was trying to steal your property out from under you so his investors wouldn't put him in prison."
"Does my father know about this?" Naomi asked, her voice trembling. "Did Dad help him?"
"We checked your father's accounts," Miller added. "Arthur Carter received three wire transfers from Mark's shell company totaling twenty thousand dollars over the last six months. Whether your father knew it was stolen money or not, he accepted the funds."
Naomi closed her eyes, resting her forehead against her hand. Her entire family was a swamp of corruption and enablement. They hadn't just relied on her generosity—they had actively exploited her name to cover up criminal activity.
"What is our next move?" Naomi asked, opening her eyes.
"We go public," Mercer said smoothly. "Not with emotion or drama, but with cold, hard facts."
That evening, Naomi sat in front of a ring light in Tessa's living room. Using a high-definition camera, she recorded a ten-minute video.
She didn't cry. She didn't yell.
She held up document after document to the camera:
First, the certified property deed proving sole ownership.
Second, the bank statements showing every mortgage payment made from her personal checking account.
Third, the certified police report detailing the assault on December 12th, along with the official medical photos of her bruised face.
Fourth, the forged loan agreement carrying Mark's fake signature of her name.
And finally, the forensic report from Ray Miller proving the origin of the fraudulent investment scheme.
"My name is Naomi Carter," she said directly into the lens, her voice ringing with absolute confidence. "For two years, I supported my family out of love. In return, I was physically assaulted, financially defrauded, and publicly slandered. Today, I am taking my narrative back."

Tessa edited the video, attaching PDF scans of every public document, and uploaded it to YouTube, Facebook, and Instagram, tagging Saint Jude Hospital and local news channels.
The response was instantaneous and catastrophic for the Carter family.
