Chapter 15 - Ashes of the Dynasty

The private jet touched down on the tarmac of a secure private aviation facility outside New York under a slate-gray winter sky. Waiting beside a row of black federal SUVs were four armed marshals and Victoria Sterling, who stood holding a leather portfolio with an expression of grim satisfaction. As the cabin stairs lowered and Viktor Thorne descended in handcuffs flanked by federal agents, flashbulbs from waiting financial journalists illuminated the falling snow.

I walked down the stairs moments later, my tailored coat wrapped tightly against the bitter wind. Victoria Sterling stepped forward to meet me, handing me an updated corporate portfolio. "The federal task force executed the warrant on Aegis Capital’s accounts thirty minutes ago. Viktor Thorne’s entire commercial shipping empire is currently under federal receivership. And as for your father's trial... it begins on Monday morning," Victoria reported briskly.

"And my father?" I asked, my breath pluming in the freezing air as white clouds against the gray horizon. "His legal team tried to file an emergency plea bargain blaming you for the initial data leak, claiming you acted as an unauthorized rogue employee," Victoria replied, a faint smirk touching her lips. "The federal judge dismissed the motion with prejudice within five minutes. The cryptographic logs you provided proved conclusively that Richard engineered every single fraudulent transaction over the past decade."

I looked out across the snow-covered airfield toward the distant city skyline where the gleaming glass towers of Mercer-Vance Holdings pierced the clouds. Seven years ago, I was a terrified, overworked forensic accountant scrubbing financial ledgers in a basement office while my family humiliated me at every turn. Now, the empire they had built on corruption and cruelty belonged entirely to me, and the men who had broken my spirit were paying the ultimate price.

My phone buzzed in my pocket. I pulled it out and glanced at the screen. It was an automated news alert flashing across the financial wire: *[Richard Mercer, disgraced real estate tycoon, hospitalized following sudden cardiac event in federal holding facility; condition reported as critical.]* I stared at the screen for a long, silent moment, feeling neither grief nor joy—only the profound, absolute closure of a chapter that could never be rewritten.
