Chapter 7 - The Fractured Truth

The helicopter arrived, a dark, silent bird that descended from the clouds. Julian didn't wait. He scooped Elena up and carried her to the landing pad, his strength waning.
“We have to go,” he said, his voice a raspy whisper.
As they lifted off, the city below began to transform. The blackout was spreading. The news feeds were already reporting a massive systems failure at the Vance corporate headquarters, leading to a cascade of leaks that exposed years of human trafficking and corporate espionage.
“It’s over, isn’t it?” Elena asked, looking out the window at the flickering city lights.
Julian leaned his head back, his eyes closing. “It’s just beginning.”

But something was wrong. Elena was staring at her hands. She began to laugh, a hollow, unsettling sound.
“They’re still talking to me, Julian,” she said, her voice devoid of emotion. “The network… it’s not just a physical connection. It’s part of me now.”
Julian felt a cold shiver run down his spine. “What do you mean?”
