Chapter 15 - The Digital Trap

The execution of the honeypot operation required absolute precision. Across the globe, from Zurich to Singapore, financial servers operated by the Pantheon Group monitored the dark web for any sign of the missing master encryption keys belonging to Bennett-Global-derived infrastructure.
Inside my private study, the dual monitors flickered with cascading lines of hexadecimal code. I sat cross-legged in my executive chair, watching the real-time data streams feed into our custom-built tracking sandbox. Beside me, Noah slept peacefully in his bassinet, completely shielded from the silent, invisible war being fought across global fiber-optic cables.
At exactly 11:45 PM, the alert system chimed softly. A green data packet pinged on the screen.
“We’ve got a bite,” I murmured, leaning closer to the display. “Node connection established from Zurich, Switzerland.”
The encrypted decoy master keys had been downloaded. Instantly, our embedded virus payload triggered, burrowing past their proxy firewalls and mapping out every single IP address, server rack, and bank account linked to the Pantheon syndicate.
My phone rang instantly. It was Detective Miller, his voice tense with excitement. “Claire, we’re seeing simultaneous data pings across four continents! The malware is pulling their master registry right into our federal server mirror!”
“Don’t let them trace the return route, Miller,” I instructed sharply. “Activate the kill-switch loop so they think the download was successful, but lock their primary accounts in an infinite verification loop.”
“Done,” Miller replied. “Interpol cybercrime units in Europe are already mobilizing based on the physical server coordinates our virus just extracted. In less than two hours, the Pantheon Group’s European leadership will be waking up to federal raids.”
I leaned back in my chair, letting out a long, measured breath. The threat that had loomed over my family from the shadows for a decade was finally being dismantled at its root.
Just then, a soft gurgle came from the bassinet. I looked down to see Noah opening his eyes, blinking sleepily against the soft light of the study. I scooped him up into my arms, pressing his warm, fragile body against my chest as I watched the final lines of code execute on my screen.

“It’s over, little one,” I whispered softly, kissing his forehead. “The monsters are gone.”
