Chapter 10 - The Boardroom Trap

Friday morning arrived under a dark, overcast sky. The towering seventy-story headquarters of Mensah Global Enterprises in downtown Accra was a hive of intense activity. Dozens of news reporters and financial journalists gathered outside the glass doors, eager to cover the highly anticipated emergency board meeting regarding the future leadership of West Africa's largest conglomerate.
Inside the grand glass-walled boardroom on the top floor, twenty board members dressed in sharp suits sat around a massive oval glass table. At the head sat Samuel Mensah, flanked by his legal team and Elizabeth. Amina sat beside Samuel, wearing an elegant, modest navy blue suit that Elizabeth had bought for her, holding Kofi's hand beneath the table.
Sitting on the opposite side of the table was Marcus Mensah, looking supremely confident, flanked by his new corporate legal representative, Ms. Evelyn Reed.
"Ladies and gentlemen of the board," Samuel announced loudly, his voice echoing across the silent room. "We are gathered here today to officially recognize my grandson, Kofi Mensah, as the rightful heir to my late son Kwame’s thirty percent voting stake in this corporation, with his mother, Amina, serving as his legal trustee."
Murmurs of approval rippled across the room. Several board members nodded in agreement.
Suddenly, Marcus’s attorney, Ms. Reed, stood up, slamming a thick leather folder onto the glass table.
"Objection, Mr. Chairman!" Ms. Reed announced dramatically. "While a DNA test was recently conducted, my client has uncovered devastating new evidence proving that this woman, Amina, has committed grand corporate fraud and perjury against the Mensah family!"
The boardroom erupted into sudden whispers of shock! Samuel glared at Marcus. "What absurd game are you playing now, Marcus?"
Marcus stood up slowly, a victorious, cruel smile spreading across his face. "It’s no game, Father. A simple DNA test can be compromised, but the moral truth of a woman's character cannot be hidden. I have brought three honorable witnesses from her home village who have come forward to expose the truth under oath!"
Marcus motioned to his guards, who opened the heavy mahogany doors of the boardroom.
Chief Baako, Comfort, and Kwesi walked into the room, looking nervously at the magnificent glass walls and rich executives. Kwesi was wearing an ill-fitting cheap suit, trying to look important.
"State your testimony!" Ms. Reed commanded Kwesi.
Kwesi stepped forward, coughing loudly and pointing a dramatic finger at Amina. "Gentlemen of the board! This woman is a liar! Ten years ago, when Kwame left the village, Amina was my secret lover! That boy, Kofi, belongs to me! She only used Kwame's name because she knew his family had money!"
Comfort stepped forward next, nodding aggressively. "It’s true! Everyone in Asante-Krom knows she’s a loose woman! She slept with multiple men while claiming to be grieving for Kwame!"
Chief Baako held up his signed affidavit. "As the tribal Chief of Asante-Krom, I officially certify under oath that this woman's child is not of the Mensah bloodline!"
Gasps of horror flared across the boardroom! Several conservative board members looked at Amina with deep disgust and indignation. The stock prices displayed on the wall screens began to tremble as nervous energy filled the room.
Marcus smirked triumphantly, looking down at Amina. "As you can see, members of the board, this woman is an immoral opportunist who tried to infiltrate our family! I move for an immediate vote to disqualify her trustee status and ban her from the Mensah estate forever!"
Samuel looked deeply shaken, his chest heaving as he gripped the armrests of his chair. "Amina... is this true?"
Amina sat completely calm. She didn't panic, she didn't cry, and she didn't yell. Instead, she stood up slowly, looking directly at Kwesi, Comfort, and Chief Baako with an expression of supreme, icy calm.
"Chief Baako," Amina said softly, her voice carrying an incredible weight. "Do you remember three years ago when my son was dying of malaria, and I came to your house begging for a small loan from the village emergency fund?"
Chief Baako shifted uncomfortably, avoiding her eyes. "I... I don't recall..."
"You refused me," Amina said, her voice rising steadily. "You told me to let the child die because I was poor. And you, Comfort... you stole my late mother's cooking pots while I was burying her in the rain. And Kwesi... you tried to force yourself on me near the river, and when I slapped your face, you swore you would make me pay."
Kwesi’s face turned bright red. "Lies! All lies!"
"Is it?" Amina asked, a dangerous, confident smile touching her lips.
Amina turned to Captain Ray Knox, who was standing near the door. "Captain Knox, please play Video Evidence A."
Knox clicked a remote control. Instantly, the massive, forty-foot high-definition screens in the boardroom lit up, displaying a crystal-clear, high-definition video recording!
The video showed Frank Malone sitting in the dark hut in Asante-Krom late Wednesday night, tossing stacks of hundred-dollar bills onto the table in front of Chief Baako, Comfort, and Kwesi!
The high-fidelity audio echoed through the boardroom speakers with terrifying clarity:
'All you have to do is sign these notarized affidavits,' Malone’s recorded voice boomed across the room. 'You will stand in front of the corporate board and swear that Amina was sleeping with multiple men...'
'For this much money,' Kwesi’s recorded voice laughed evilly on the screen, 'I’ll swear I married her in secret!'
The entire boardroom went utterly, completely silent.
Kwesi’s jaw dropped so low it nearly touched his chest. Comfort let out a high-pitched squeal of pure terror, while Chief Baako collapsed back against the wall, clutching his heart.
Marcus stood frozen at the table, his blood draining from his face until he looked like a walking corpse.
"You... you recorded us?!" Kwesi shrieked in terror.
"Captain Knox has elite surveillance teams across the country," Amina said coldly, stepping closer to Marcus. "You thought because I was a poor village woman, I was stupid. You thought you could buy my dignity with blood money. But you forgot one thing, Marcus... truth doesn't cost a single cedi."
Samuel stood up, his face flushed with righteous, thunderous fury! He pointed a shaking finger at Marcus.
"You attempted to slander my late son’s memory, destroy an innocent woman, and suborn perjury in my boardroom!" Samuel roared, his voice shaking the glass windows. "Members of the board, I call for an immediate vote! All those in favor of permanently stripping Marcus Mensah of his executive directorship and filing criminal charges for corporate conspiracy, raise your hands now!"
Every single board member in the room raised their hand instantly!
"It is unanimous!" Samuel declared, slamming his wooden gavel down with a thunderous crash! "Marcus Mensah, you are fired! Security, remove these criminals from my building and hand them directly to the federal prosecutors!"
As Captain Knox and armed security guards dragged a screaming Kwesi, weeping Comfort, and paralyzed Chief Baako out of the room, police detectives stepped forward, placing heavy steel handcuffs on Marcus’s wrists.

"This isn't over, Father!" Marcus screamed as he was dragged away in humiliation before dozens of flashing news cameras outside. "I will burn this entire company to the ground before I let her win!"
Amina stood tall at the head of the boardroom table, holding her head high. She had survived the lion's den, and her son’s legacy was finally secured.
