Chapter 18 - Siege at Seventy Floors

The sun rose over Accra, casting a warm golden glow across the towering, seventy-story glass structure of the Mensah Corporate Headquarters. Thousands of people packed the grand plaza outside, while hundreds of distinguished guests, international news crews, and corporate leaders gathered in the grand top-floor auditorium on the seventieth floor.

Amina stood behind the stage curtain, looking stunning in a white silk suit, holding Kofi’s hand. Samuel stood beside them, looking proud and handsome in a dark tailored suit.

"Today," Samuel said warmly, taking Amina’s hand, "we launch the Kwame Mensah Foundation, providing millions of dollars in education and healthcare to impoverished rural villages across the country, starting with Asante-Krom."

Amina smiled, tears of joy welling in her eyes. "Kwame would be so proud, Samuel."

Suddenly, the heavy double doors at the back of the auditorium burst open!

A loud, terrifying explosion rocked the lower floors of the building! The ground beneath their feet trembled violently, sending glass chandeliers swaying as screaming guests scrambled in blind terror!

"ATTENTION EVERYONE!" a raspy, terrifying voice boomed over the building’s emergency public address system!

Frank Malone stood inside the central master control room on the sixty-fifth floor, holding a heavy tactical assault rifle in one hand and a sleek, red-lit digital detonator in the other!

"The entire foundation of this building is rigged with military-grade C4 explosives!" Malone’s voice echoed through every speaker in the seventy-story skyscraper! "I have locked all emergency stairwells and disabled the elevators! If anyone attempts to leave, or if the police try to storm this building, I will press this button and bring this entire seventy-story tower down!"

Panic erupted across the seventieth floor! Hundreds of guests screamed, rushing toward the locked exit doors in total chaos!

Inside the auditorium, Samuel clutched his chest, gasping for air as his weak heart struggled under the intense stress! "Samuel!" Elizabeth cried out, holding her husband as he collapsed into a chair!

Amina’s tactical instincts kicked in instantly. She pulled Kofi behind the heavy oak podium, keeping him safe from the panicked crowd.

Standing near the stage, Captain Ray Knox pulled his tactical earpiece. "Ma'am!" Knox called out to Amina over the din of screaming people. "Malone escaped from prison last night! He’s barricaded inside the master control room on the sixty-fifth floor! The main security system is completely overridden!"

"Can SWAT team clear the building from the roof?" Amina demanded, her voice firm and completely devoid of fear.

"No!" Knox replied urgently. "He has a dead-man's wireless detonator linked to his heartbeat! If SWAT shoots him, his heart stopping will trigger the explosives instantly!"

Amina’s sharp mind raced at lightning speed. "How is the detonator connected to the charges?"

"Via the building’s central fiber-optic server trunk on the sixty-eighth floor!" Knox explained. "If someone can manually sever the primary optical cable on sixty-eight before he presses the button, the signal won't reach the charges in the basement!"

"Then that’s what we are going to do," Amina declared, stepping forward.

"Amina, no!" Samuel gasped from his chair, clutching his chest. "It’s too dangerous! You'll be killed!"

Amina looked down at her son, then at Samuel, and finally at Kwame’s photograph inside her purse.

"I spent ten years surviving in the mud, Samuel," Amina said, her dark eyes flashing with unshakeable courage. "I am not going to let a terrorist destroy my family’s future today."

She looked at Captain Knox. "Knox, grab your tools. We have five minutes to save seven hundred people.
