Chapter 17 - The Final Desperate Move

With Victoria and Julian joining Marcus behind the iron bars of the Accra Maximum Security Penitentiary, the dark clouds that had hung over the Mensah family for ten long years finally began to dissipate. The federal prosecutor’s office launched a sweeping investigation into Marcus and Victoria’s financial dealings, uncovering millions of dollars in stolen corporate funds and illegal offshore accounts.
The corporate board of Mensah Global Enterprises held a historic vote, officially appointing Amina as the Senior Vice-Chairwoman of the Board and legal trustee of the thirty percent shares until Kofi came of age.
Amina threw herself into her new role with incredible dedication. Guided by Samuel and elite private tutors, she quickly became a formidable corporate force. Her natural intelligence, combined with her lived experience of hardship, gave her a unique, highly respected perspective that won the admiration of board members, factory workers, and international investors alike.
However, deep inside the high-security federal prison on the outskirts of Accra, a bitter, dying embers of hatred still burned.
Marcus Mensah sat in a dim, cold interrogation room, looking gaunt, unwashed, and completely unhinged. Across the table sat Frank Malone, who had been captured by Captain Knox’s tactical team three days earlier while trying to flee across the border into Togo.
"They've stripped us of everything, Malone," Marcus hissed, his eyes bloodshot and crazed. "The court froze all our assets. The board voted that village woman into my chair. My own father has officially written me out of the family trust!"
Malone leaned back in his chair, his gloved hands cuffed to the heavy steel table. "Why are you telling me this, Mensah? We're both going to prison for twenty years."
A dark, terrifying smirk spread across Marcus’s face. "Not if we execute the final safeguard."
Malone raised an eyebrow. "What safeguard?"
"Five years ago," Marcus whispered, leaning across the table, "when I was managing the company's logistics division, I secretly hired an elite team of mercenaries to plant remote-controlled explosive charges inside the foundation of the Mensah Corporate Tower downtown, as a leverage asset against my father in case he ever tried to remove me from power."
Malone stared at Marcus in shock. "You rigged your own corporate headquarters with explosives?"
"The detonator transmitter is hidden inside a safe in my old private office on the sixty-fifth floor," Marcus growled, his voice laced with pure madness. "Tomorrow afternoon, Amina and my father are holding a grand press conference in the top-floor auditorium to announce a major charitable foundation in Kwame's name. The entire family will be there."
Marcus pulled a small, concealed key from the lining of his prison jumpsuit and slid it across the table toward Malone.
"My corrupt guard will unlock your cell tonight during the guard shift change," Marcus whispered darkly. "Get into the building, retrieve the detonator from my office, and blow that building to hell. If I can't have the Mensah empire... no one will!"
Malone looked at the key, a sinister, greedy smile touching his raspy lips. "What's my payout?"
"Ten million dollars in unindexed Swiss crypto-currency," Marcus said, his eyes burning with absolute insanity. "The access codes are etched on the back of that key."
Late that night, as heavy rain battered the iron bars of the prison, a corrupt guard quietly unlocked Frank Malone’s cell door. Malone slipped out into the dark hallway like a silent shadow, slipping past security cameras and vanishing into the rainy night.
Meanwhile, at the Mensah estate, Amina sat in Kofi's room, watching him sleep peacefully under his soft silk blanket. Kwame's photograph sat on the bedside table, bathed in the soft glow of a nightlight.
Amina reached out and touched her son’s warm forehead, her heart filled with profound peace. But as she looked out the window at the flashing lights of downtown Accra, a sudden, inexplicable sense of foreboding settled over her chest once again.

She pulled out her phone and dialed Captain Ray Knox.
"Captain Knox," Amina said softly. "Increase security at the corporate tower for tomorrow's press conference. Something tells me the final snake hasn't stopped rattling yet.
