Chapter 11 - The Venomous Snake

With Marcus officially stripped of his executive power and locked behind bars pending a massive federal trial for bribery, corporate fraud, and conspiracy, a brief sense of peace returned to the Mensah estate. The news of Amina's incredible victory in the boardroom dominated every major newspaper and television broadcast in the country. She was hailed by the public as a symbol of unwavering maternal strength and grace.
However, inside the dark, brooding halls of the estate's East Wing, the danger was far from over.
Victoria Mensah, Marcus’s sharp and venomous wife, sat in her private drawing room, staring intently at a wall covered with financial documents and newspaper clippings. She was furious. Her husband was facing decades in prison, their corporate accounts were frozen by federal auditors, and her son Julian was facing expulsion from his elite international academy after getting into a violent brawl over the family scandal.
"We are losing everything, Julian," Victoria hissed, her fingers digging into the fabric of her silk armchair as she looked at her sullen son standing near the window. "If Marcus goes to prison, your grandfather will alter his will completely. That village peasant and her bastard child will inherit the entire four-billion-dollar estate!"
"What can we do, Mom?" Julian grumbled bitterly. "Uncle Marcus tried everything and failed. The old man has security guards following that kid everywhere he goes."
Victoria’s eyes narrowed into dark, reptilian slits. A cold, terrifying smile slowly spread across her red lips. "Your uncle was sloppy because he relied on weak villagers and cheap bribes. He tried to ruin her reputation. But reputation doesn't matter if the boy is no longer alive to claim the inheritance."
Julian gasped, stepping back in shock. "Mom... you can't mean..."
"Listen to me carefully, Julian," Victoria whispered, pulling him close by his collar, her voice laced with deadly poison. "Next week is the annual Mensah Family Charity Gala at the grand beach resort in Ada. Your grandfather is planning to officially introduce Kofi to the international elite as the sole heir of the family dynasty. The entire world will be watching."
"What are you going to do?" Julian asked, his voice trembling with a mixture of fear and twisted ambition.
"The resort sits right on the edge of the Volta River estuary," Victoria whispered darkly. "The currents where the river meets the Atlantic Ocean are treacherous, deadly, and unpredictable. Accidents happen to careless children all the time... especially children who don't know how to swim."
Meanwhile, in the West Wing, Amina was sitting at a large mahogany desk, studying corporate financial reports with the help of a private business tutor hired by Samuel. Amina’s sharp mind, honed by years of managing tight market budgets in Asante-Krom, was picking up high-level corporate finance with astonishing speed.
Samuel walked into the room, carrying a beautifully wrapped velvet box. He looked happier and healthier than he had in ten years, his cheeks full of color and his eyes bright with hope.
"Amina," Samuel said warmly, setting the velvet box on her desk. "I want you to have this."
Amina opened the box. Resting on the red silk interior was a breathtaking diamond necklace, shimmering with brilliant, multi-carat stones that caught the sunlight pouring through the window.
Amina gasped, quickly closing the box and pushing it back toward him. "Mr. Mensah... I cannot accept this. It’s far too expensive."
"Please, call me Samuel," the old man urged gently, taking her hands. "Amina, this necklace belonged to Kwame's mother, Elizabeth. She wants you to wear it at the Charity Gala in Ada next weekend. You are no longer just a guest in our home... you are the pillar holding this family together. You saved our company from Marcus's greed, and you have given me my life back through Kofi."
Amina looked down at her hands, feeling a deep warmth in her heart. For ten long years, she had felt utterly alone in the world, fighting every single day just to secure a bowl of rice for her child. Now, she was surrounded by genuine love, respect, and protection.

"Thank you, Samuel," she whispered softly, tears of quiet happiness glistening in her eyes. "I will wear it with pride."
Little did Amina know that the upcoming Charity Gala in Ada, meant to be the glorious celebration of her son’s acceptance into high society, was being prepared as the stage for a deadly, cold-blooded trap.
