Chapter 15 - The Web of Betrayal

The private executive wing of the Accra General Hospital was heavily fortified by armed guards from Captain Ray Knox’s private security firm. The attempt on Amina and Kofi’s lives at the Ada Gala had pushed Samuel Mensah to the absolute limit of his patience.
Inside a warm, comfortable recovery room, Kofi lay asleep under a thick wool blanket, an IV drip hooked to his small arm ensuring he was rehydrated and healthy. Amina sat beside him in a crisp hospital gown, wrapped in a fleece blanket, sipping hot broth. Aside from minor exhaustion and a few bruises from tackling Malone, both mother and child were miraculously unharmed.
The heavy door opened, and Samuel walked in, followed by Elizabeth and Captain Knox. Samuel looked thirty years older, his face lined with dark circles, but his eyes burned with a cold, lethal fury that Amina had never seen before.
"Amina," Samuel said, his voice trembling as he walked over and gently kissed her forehead. "Thank God... thank God you are safe."
"Who did this to us, Samuel?" Amina asked, her voice dropping into a razor-sharp tone. "Julian lured my son to that pier. And the man who tried to throw Kofi into the water was the same man who was in Asante-Krom paying off the villagers."
Captain Knox stepped forward, tapping his tablet screen. "His name is Frank Malone, ma'am. He's an ex-mercenary and hired killer. We tracked his encrypted phone records from the resort. In the two hours leading up to the attack on the pier, Malone made four private phone calls to a burner phone registered to Victoria Mensah."
Amina’s eyes widened with sharp realization. "Victoria..."
"She wanted to finish what Marcus started," Samuel said, his voice dropping into a dark, terrifying whisper. "She thought that by murdering my grandson, her family would secure the estate."
"Where is she now?" Amina asked.
"She and Julian are currently at the Mensah estate," Knox replied coldly. "They believe that you and Kofi drowned at sea. They don't know the Coast Guard rescued you two hours ago because we placed a complete news blackout on the rescue operation."
Amina set her broth bowl down on the bedside table. A cold, calculating smile slowly spread across her lips—a look of pure, lethal intelligence that made even Captain Knox lift his eyebrows in surprise.
"They think we are dead," Amina whispered, her dark eyes flashing in the hospital light. "They are probably pouring champagne right now, preparing to take full control of the estate."
"What are you thinking, Amina?" Samuel asked, leaning in close.
"I'm thinking it's time to give Victoria and Marcus the grand performance they deserve," Amina said, her voice dripping with venomous confidence. "Captain Knox... how fast can you arrange a private search-and-seizure warrant for Victoria's quarters?"
Knox smirked darkly. "The High Chief Justice owes Samuel a favor. I can have a judge sign the warrant in twenty minutes."
"Good," Amina said, throwing off her fleece blanket and standing up on her own two feet, looking completely energized and ready for war. "Samuel, call a press conference at the Mensah mansion tonight. Announce to the world that a private family memorial service will be held for my son and me."
Elizabeth gasped, clutching her pearls. "A fake memorial service?"
"Let them believe they’ve won," Amina explained, her eyes burning with brilliant strategic power. "Let Victoria walk into that memorial service with her head held high, ready to claim the inheritance. And right when she reaches for the crown... we will pull the trap door beneath her feet."
Meanwhile, back at the grand Mensah mansion in East Legon, Victoria Mensah sat in her lavish master bedroom, clinking her crystal champagne glass against her son Julian's glass.
"To a new era, Julian," Victoria laughed triumphantly, taking a long sip of expensive French champagne. "The news blackout means the police have recovered their bodies from the ocean. The old man is broken. By next week, Marcus will be freed on bail, and the entire four-billion-dollar Mensah empire will finally be ours!"
Julian smiled nervously, though a faint shudder ran down his spine. "You're sure they drowned, Mom?"
May you like
"No one survives the currents of Ada, my sweet boy," Victoria sneered, looking out the grand window at the dark estate gardens. "They are gone. Back to the dirt where they belong."
Little did Victoria know that outside her gated bedroom, the dark shadows were already closing in, and the dead were preparing to walk back into her life.
