Chapter 15 - The Exposure of Grant's Medical Fraud

Three weeks after the gala, the federal indictment against Grant Sterling became front-page news across the nation. Investigative journalists picked apart every layer of his corporate deception, exposing how he had bribed clinic administrators six years prior to falsify my medical records, ensuring I took the blame for his own severe male-factor infertility.
The clinic administrator who had accepted Grant’s bribe broke under federal interrogation, turning state’s evidence in exchange for a reduced sentence. The signed confession was published in full, detailing how Grant had orchestrated the entire gaslighting campaign to maintain his public image while systematically draining my father’s construction firm.
Public sentiment swung violently against Grant and Vanessa. Social media platforms exploded with hashtags like *#JusticeForNora* and *#TheSheriffsRevenge*, making the story viral across Facebook, TikTok, and international news feeds. Talk shows debated the psychological horror of marital gaslighting, using our case as a defining cultural touchstone.
Meanwhile, back in Cedar Hollow, life had returned to a peaceful, golden rhythm—though the weathered farmhouse now hosted regular visits from top-tier medical specialists and legal advisors working out of Elias’s newly organized home office.
I sat on the wide front porch in a comfortable rocking chair, sipping herbal tea while watching the sun dip below the tree line. My twin bump was now magnificent and undeniable, a constant reminder of the miracle growing inside me.
Elias walked up the steps, carrying a stack of mail and two fresh glasses of lemonade. He handed me a glass, his eyes softening as he knelt beside my chair to place a warm hand over my stomach.
“How are our little investors doing today?” Elias asked, a low, rumbling amusement in his voice.
“They’re kicking up a storm,” I smiled, resting my hand over his. “I think they’re practicing for a marathon. Or maybe they just know their father is a former federal legend who doesn't take 'no' for an answer.”
“They take after their mother,” Elias corrected gently. “Resilient, stubborn, and completely unimpressed by arrogant men in expensive suits.”
“Speaking of arrogant men,” I said, looking at the top envelope in his hand. “Is that another legal update from Marcus?”
Elias’s expression shifted slightly, a shadow of grim satisfaction crossing his features. “Indeed it is. Grant’s defense team tried to plea bargain for house arrest. Judge Harrison rejected it outright. He’s facing twelve years in federal prison with zero possibility of parole before six are served.”
“And Vanessa?”
“Pleaded guilty to conspiracy and wire fraud, cooperating against Grant’s secondary assets. She’ll serve three years at the federal facility in Danbury. Her social media accounts have already been permanently deleted.”

I took a sip of the lemonade, letting the cool citrus wash over me. There was no elation, no bitter celebration—only a profound, unshakeable peace. The ghosts of the past had been laid to rest. The lie had been shattered into dust.
