Chapter 10 - The Secret Inheritance

The silence in the grand ballroom was deafening.

Brad was still on his knees near the stage, cradling his wrist, staring up at Leo in absolute disbelief. The boy he had humiliated, the boy he had poured coffee over, was standing on the stage holding the deed to his family’s entire life.

“This is a lie!” Brad screamed, scrambling to his feet. “Dad! Call the police! He hacked the system! He’s a nobody! He lives in a trashy apartment!”

Marcus didn't call the police. He couldn't. His hands were shaking so violently he dropped his phone.

“Julian’s code...” Marcus muttered, sweat pouring down his forehead. “The encryption algorithm... you didn't just build Aegis... you finished your father’s master formula!”

“My father was a genius, Marcus,” Leo said, standing over him on the stage. “You stole his company ten years ago because you thought a teenager would never figure out what you did. You thought if you kept us poor, we would stay quiet.”

Leo tapped his tablet again.

The main screen changed, displaying archived legal documents from ten years prior—bank transfers, forged signatures, and erased patents carrying Marcus Sterling’s personal signature.

“Ten years ago, you committed corporate treason to destroy my father,” Leo announced to the high-society crowd. “Tonight, Aegis did not hack you. Aegis simply calculated the interest on what you stole from my family... and collected the debt.”

Security guards rushed into the room, led by the Country Club manager.

“Mr. Sterling! Should we clear the stage?!” the head of security shouted.

At that moment, the double doors of the ballroom burst open.

Four men in sharp navy suits, accompanied by agents from the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and federal marshals, marched into the room.

“Marcus Sterling!” the lead federal agent barked, pulling out a warrant. “You are under arrest for multi-billion dollar financial fraud, illegal asset stripping, and market manipulation.”

The crowd erupted into chaotic murmuring. Cameras flashed from news reporters who had been invited to cover a charity gala, now capturing the downfall of one of the country’s most powerful men.

Brad ran toward his father as federal agents slapped steel handcuffs onto Marcus’s wrists.

“Dad! Tell them it’s wrong! Dad!” Brad yelled, tears welling in his eyes.

Marcus looked at Brad, his eyes hollow and defeated. “It’s over, Brad... everything is gone.”

Brad turned slowly to face Leo. His face was twisted with rage, embarrassment, and terror.

“You did this!” Brad screamed, rushing toward the stage. “You ruined my life!”

Leo didn't even flinch. Two federal agents intercepted Brad easily, slamming him against a marble pillar and pinning his arms behind his back.

Leo walked down the stage steps, stopping right in front of the pinned bully.

“I didn't ruin your life, Brad,” Leo said quietly, looking down at him with dark, icy eyes. “You did. When you poured that cup of coffee yesterday, you thought you were breaking a victim. You were just signing your family’s eviction notice.”
