Chapter 7 - The Unseen Boardroom

At 4:00 PM, four hours before the Charity Gala, a sleek black Maybach with tinted windows pulled up to an alleyway three blocks away from Oakridge High.

Leo stepped into the back seat.

Sitting inside was Maya Lin, wearing a tailored charcoal suit, her dark hair pulled back into a sharp bun. She handed Leo a encrypted satellite phone and a folder full of legal documents.

“Good afternoon, Mr. Vance,” Maya said respectfully.

“Status report, Maya,” Leo commanded, his tone shifting entirely from a high school loner to the chief executive of an elite financial power.

“Marcus Sterling fell for the bait completely,” Maya reported, pulling up a dynamic financial chart on her laptop. “Thinking Aegis was vulnerable after yesterday’s hardware glitch, Marcus over-leveraged Sterling Global’s credit reserves by 4.8 billion dollars to purchase our floating options.”

“He borrowed against his own company’s core assets?” Leo asked, a cold smile touching his lips.

“Yes. He put up Sterling Tower, his private real estate holdings, and his corporate stock as collateral to guarantee the deal by close of market today,” Maya explained. “He believes that once he secures Aegis, the stock valuation will skyrocket tenfold, making the debt irrelevant.”

“And when Aegis rejects his security authorization?” Leo asked.

“The liquidity debt defaults instantly at 8:30 PM tonight,” Maya said. “At that exact moment, the automatic clause triggers. Every asset Marcus Sterling owns will be seized by our holding group to liquidate his default.”

Leo looked out the window at the setting sun.

“Does Marcus know who owns the holding group?”

“No,” Maya smiled thinly. “As far as Wall Street knows, the chairman of 'Vance Strategic Capital' is an anonymous offshore entity. Marcus thinks he’s negotiating with an old Swiss banking cartel.”

Leo closed the folder. “Perfect. Keep everything on schedule for 8:30 PM.”

“Sir,” Maya added, hesitation in her voice. “Marcus Sterling’s security detail at the Gala is heavy. Private guards, ex-military. Are you sure you want to attend in person as a staff waiter?”

Leo looked down at the golden VIP pass Brad had given him.

“Brad gave me the front row seat, Maya,” Leo said softly. “It would be rude not to show up for the performance.”
