Chapter 13 - The Mask Falls Off

The journey to St. Jude’s Memorial Hospital was swift and smooth. The private medical transport vehicle, escorted by two security vehicles, glided through the snow-covered highways in under forty minutes.

By midnight, Khloe was comfortably settled into Suite 401—a state-of-the-art delivery room overlooking the quiet city lights. The room was warm, filled with soft ambient lighting, calming acoustic music, and a dedicated team of elite obstetric nurses under the direct supervision of Dr. Elena Vance and Dr. Robert Hayes.

Unlike the terrifying night seven weeks ago in Suite 304—which was filled with broken glass, shouts, and terrifying physical pain—this room was filled with peace, dignity, and absolute safety.

Khloe walked slowly around the suite during her early labor, supported by her uncle Robert's strong arm, breathing rhythmically through each contraction.

"You're doing fantastically, Khloe," Dr. Vance encouraged, checking the telemetry monitors. "Contractions are four minutes apart, strong and consistent. Cervical dilation is at six centimeters. Baby’s heart rate is a rock-solid 145 beats per minute."

Around 2:00 AM, a quiet knock came at the outer reception door of the suite.

Officer Vance stepped inside and motioned to Dr. Hayes. Robert excused himself and walked out into the private hallway.

Standing in the hallway near the security desk was Marcus Thorne. He was dressed in a dark winter coat, holding a small bouquet of white roses and a plain envelope. He looked exhausted, but his posture was respectful, making no attempt to push past the guards.

"Dr. Hayes," Marcus said softly, stopping six feet away. "The legal assistant notified me that Khloe was brought in for labor tonight. I... I didn't come to intrude or cause stress. I just wanted to drop off these legal papers for the child trust fund and... ask if she is safe."

Robert looked at the former billionaire closely. For the first time in three years, there was no arrogance in Marcus’s posture, no slick corporate PR spin, no demanding tone.

"Khloe is doing remarkably well, Marcus," Robert replied, his tone even and professional. "Labor is progressing naturally and smoothly. There are zero complications."

Marcus let out a long, shuddering breath of relief, nodding his head repeatedly. "Thank God. Thank God."

He held out the bouquet of white roses and the envelope. "These are from my mother's rose garden upstate. And this envelope contains the deed to the trust property for Ethan. I'll leave now."

Robert looked at the flowers, then at Marcus. "You don't have to leave the hospital building, Marcus. You can wait down in the main lobby on the ground floor if you wish. When the child is born, if Khloe permits it, I will bring you a picture."

Marcus looked up, his eyes filled with profound gratitude and tears. "Thank you, Dr. Hayes. Truly... thank you for saving my family, even when I was too foolish to see it."

Marcus turned and walked quietly toward the elevator, taking his seat in the public lobby below—a humble father waiting in the shadows, acknowledging his past mistakes while honoring the boundaries of the woman he had failed.

Back in Suite 401, Robert walked into the delivery room holding the white roses. He placed them in a glass vase near the window.

"Who were those from?" Khloe asked softly between breaths.

"From Marcus," Robert answered honestly. "He came to drop off the final trust deeds. He is waiting downstairs in the main lobby. He asked for nothing, and he respected your space completely."

Khloe looked at the white roses blooming softly under the warm lamp light. A gentle feeling of closure washed over her heart. The toxic mask of the arrogant billionaire had fallen off, leaving behind a man who was finally learning how to be human. And though she would never return to him as a wife, she felt a quiet satisfaction knowing that her son would grow up with a father who had at least begun the long journey toward true redemption.
