Chapter 8 - A Snake in Crimson Silk

News of the collapse of the Thorne corporate dynasty sent shockwaves through the financial world. By mid-afternoon, major headlines across the country read: *'THORNE INDUSTRIES IPO CANCELLED AMID FELONY ASSAULT AND CORPORATE ESPIONAGE SCANDAL'*. Stock values tumbled, but inside the emergency board meeting, Khloe’s decisive proxy vote had already stabilized the core operations by appointing chief operating officer Arthur Vance as interim CEO.

Meanwhile, in the high-security holding cells of the county jail, Isabella Rossi was experiencing the harsh reality of her fallen status.

Dressed in rough blue denim detention scrubs, she was escorted into a private attorney-client visitation room. Expecting her high-priced defense attorney, she was stunned to find David Chen sitting across the heavy acrylic divider, a sleek silver laptop open in front of him.

"Who are you?" Isabella demanded, taking a seat with an aggressive scowl. "Where is my attorney, Raymond Vance?"

"Mr. Vance was released from your service twenty minutes ago," David replied smoothly, tapping a key on his keyboard. "It turns out that when your foreign offshore bank accounts were frozen by federal injunction this morning, your retainer check bounced. Mr. Vance does not work for free."

Isabella’s face went pale. "Frozen? My Swiss accounts can't be frozen! That's illegal!"

"It is entirely legal under the International Anti-Money Laundering Act when the funds are proven to originate from corporate espionage and racketeering," David explained calmly. "I am here on behalf of Dr. Robert Hayes and Mrs. Khloe Thorne to offer you a singular choice."

Isabella leaned forward, her dark eyes flashing with desperate venom. "A choice? What choice? Khloe destroyed my life! She ruined everything!"

David chuckled softly, shaking his head at her complete lack of self-awareness. "You ruined your own life, Miss Rossi, the moment you drove your heel into a pregnant woman's side on camera. What I am offering you now is a choice regarding the length of your prison sentence."

He turned the laptop screen toward the glass partition. On the display was a comprehensive map of corporate communications connecting Isabella directly to Arthur Pendelton, CEO of Vanguard Global Holdings.

"Vanguard has completely disavowed you," David pointed out. "They issued a press release calling you an unhinged rogue actor who acted entirely on your own initiative. They are leaving you to take the full fall for the assault, the wire fraud, and the corporate theft. You are looking at twenty-five years without parole."

Isabella gripped the edge of the metal counter, her knuckles turning white. "Arthur promised he would protect me! He said if I took down Marcus, Vanguard would make me a senior partner in their European division!"

"Arthur Pendelton lies to disposable assets," David said coldly. "Just like you lied to Marcus Thorne. But if you sign a full, sworn confession detailing Vanguard's direct instruction to sabotage Thorne Industries and state under oath that Pendelton personally ordered you to provoke a public scandal with Khloe... the District Attorney will drop the criminal conspiracy charges down to state cooperation levels."

Isabella stared at the screen, her breathing shallow and ragged. "If I testify against Vanguard... Pendelton will ruin me completely."

"You are already ruined, Miss Rossi," David reminded her ruthlessly. "The only question remaining is whether you wish to spend your entire thirties and forties inside a maximum-security prison cell, or if you want a chance at seeing daylight before you turn forty. You have five minutes to decide."

Isabella slumped back in her chair, the last remnants of her cold, arrogant pride evaporating into thin air. She looked down at her cuffed wrists, remembering the luxury suites, the red dresses, and the arrogant belief that she could destroy a family and walk away victorious.

"Give me the pen," Isabella whispered weakly, her voice breaking into sob. "I'll sign whatever you want."

Across town at St. Jude’s Hospital, Khloe was sitting up in bed, surrounded by warm flowers and soft pillows. Her uncle Robert walked in, carrying two cups of fresh herbal tea.

"David just called," Robert said, setting a tea cup on her bedside table. "Isabella Rossi has agreed to a full state confession. She is testifying against Vanguard Global Holdings. The District Attorney is issuing arrest warrants for Arthur Pendelton and his executive board as we speak."

Khloe let out a quiet sigh, resting her hands over her stomach. "It's finally over, isn't it?"

"The corporate war is over," Robert smiled warmly, sitting down beside her. "Vanguard is finished, Isabella is going to prison, and Marcus has surrendered all management control of the Thorne family assets to your son's trust fund."

"And Marcus?" Khloe asked softly.

May you like

"Marcus signed the separation agreement twenty minutes ago," Robert revealed. "He checked into a private rehabilitation and executive counseling clinic in upstate New York. He won't be contacting you again until his legal team satisfies our strict psychological evaluation requirements."

Khloe nodded slowly, a feeling of immense peace settling over her heart. For three long years, she had been trapped in a gold-plated cage, sacrificing her dignity, her happiness, and her self-worth to please a husband who viewed her as nothing more than a polished trophy. Now, sitting in a quiet hospital room, bruised but victorious, she was finally free.
