Chapter 12 - Family Ghosts

Later that evening, Julian sat quietly in his private study with Leo, finally breaking decades of heavy silence regarding his exiled brother Victor.
The stone fireplace crackled softly, casting dancing golden shadows across rows of antique bookshelves.
‘I truly thought Victor was gone forever, Leo,’ Julian spoke quietly, swirling amber whiskey in the bottom of a heavy crystal glass.
‘Years ago, we built Vance Global together from the ground up, but his sociopathic ambition crossed severe ethical boundaries that I simply couldn't accept. He wanted to weaponize global financial markets to manipulate sovereign governments. When I threatened to report his illegal operations to international authorities, he staged his own death on that yacht and fled overseas.’
Leo listened intently, rapidly connecting the dots between Victor’s shadowy syndicate and the sudden influx of tainted capital into Sterling Enterprises.
‘So Chad wasn't just acting like a spoiled high school bully; he was being bankrolled by Uncle Victor all along to buy up local land plots right under our noses,’ Leo deduced, his sharp analytical mind working far faster than his years suggested.
Julian nodded solemnly, resting a heavy, reassuring hand on his son’s shoulder.
‘Precisely. And now that we’ve completely dismantled Marcus Sterling’s front operation, Victor is finally stepping out of the shadows to finish what he started fifteen years ago.’
The stakes had escalated far beyond high school social hierarchies and teenage petty rivalries. This was now a ruthless war for the very survival of their global corporate empire and their family's physical safety.

Julian pulled a heavy antique iron key from his pocket and unlocked a concealed floor safe hidden beneath the Persian rug, pulling out an old leather-bound ledger filled with confidential banking routing codes and handwritten encryption keys.
‘If Victor wants an all-out war, we’ll give him one he will never forget. But we need to strike first before his digital attack paralyzes our international supply chains,’ Julian declared with fierce determination.
