Chapter 2 - Echoes of Power and Retribution

The heavy silence in the parking lot lasted only a fraction of a second before frantic whispering broke out among the stunned spectators holding their smartphones high to record the spectacle.
Chad Sterling stood completely frozen, his knees trembling slightly beneath his designer jeans as the sheer horror of his public humiliation finally set in.
With a soft hydraulic hiss, the crimson Ferrari’s driver-side door swung upward like the wing of a stealth fighter.
A tall, impeccably dressed man in a charcoal tailored suit stepped out onto the asphalt. Julian Vance looked at his son Leo with a warm, knowing smile, completely ignoring the flock of terrified teenagers standing around them.
‘Is everything alright here, son?’ Julian’s voice was smooth, carrying the effortless authority of a man who commanded global markets and billions of dollars with a single signature.
Leo gave a slight nod, keeping his hands in his hoodie pockets. ‘Everything’s fine, Dad. Just settling a small wager.’
Chad tried desperately to find his voice, stammering incoherently as the terrifying realization of who Julian Vance actually was crashed down upon him. Marcus Sterling’s entire business empire was currently leveraged against a massive multi-million-dollar commercial loan that Julian Vance’s holding company had quietly bought out just that morning.
‘He accepted the bet, Dad,’ Leo said quietly, pointing a finger at the paralyzed teenager. ‘He promised to get on his knees if this was our car.’
Hearing those words, Chad’s so-called friends immediately stepped backward, distancing themselves from him as if a plague were catching. They abandoned their leader the exact moment his power and social currency evaporated into thin air.
‘Please... wait, Mr. Vance, there’s been a massive misunderstanding,’ Chad stammered, his voice cracking with panic as he looked at Julian with pleading eyes.
Julian didn’t even glance at him. He adjusted his gold-rimmed watch, his gaze fixed coldly on the horizon.
Ten minutes later, the screech of tires announced the arrival of a black luxury SUV. Marcus Sterling tumbled out of the vehicle, summoned by a panicked, frantic phone call from his son.
Seeing Julian Vance standing beside the legendary crimson Ferrari sent a wave of icy dread straight through Marcus’s spine. Marcus had spent years trying to secure a brief five-minute meeting with Julian to beg for a financial partnership, and here his arrogant, foolish son had managed to alienate the billionaire's only direct heir in broad daylight.
‘Julian! What an absolute, unexpected pleasure!’ Marcus forced a stiff, nervous smile, sweating profusely under the blistering sun as he rushed forward.
Julian slowly turned his head, looking at Marcus with chilling indifference.

‘Your son has a habit of making binding wagers, Marcus,’ Julian said, his voice dangerously quiet. ‘I suggest you teach him some manners before the stock market opens tomorrow morning, or your company won't survive the week.’
Marcus turned pale as chalk, realizing that his son’s reckless arrogance had just signed their family’s financial death warrant.
