Chapter 19 - Return to Normalcy

Two weeks later, life at Oakridge High had returned to a comfortable semblance of normal routine, though the campus social hierarchy was permanently altered.
Chad Sterling was currently awaiting federal trial behind bars, while Jessica Vance had successfully transitioned into a bright new life, earning a full academic scholarship to study computer science at an Ivy League university.
The viral video of the parking lot bet was now just a distant internet meme, replaced rapidly by newer digital trends, but the students still looked at Leo Vance with a healthy mixture of awe and respectful distance whenever he walked down the halls.
Leo walked across the sun-drenched parking lot where the crimson Ferrari was parked once again, shining brilliantly under the warm afternoon sun.
Chloe walked right beside him, holding a stack of freshly printed school newspapers featuring her final, award-winning exposé on corporate corruption and student accountability.
‘So, are you finally going to let me drive the supercar today, Vance, or is that privilege strictly reserved for billionaire heirs?’ Chloe teased with a playful, bright smile.
Leo laughed, tossing her the sleek digital key fob with a casual flick of his wrist.

‘Only if you promise solemnly not to bet it away to any arrogant bullies.’
Chloe caught the fob cleanly out of the air, her eyes sparkling with amusement as they climbed into the luxurious vehicle, ready to drive away into a peaceful future where they no longer needed to hide who they truly were.
