Chapter 27: Truth in the Fire

The grand hallway of Raven Lake Lodge dissolved into a storm of smoke, shouted commands, and the flashing strobe lights of tactical breaching gear. Federal operators in matte-gray uniforms swarmed through the shattered front entrance, their weapons raised, securing the perimeter with cold, mechanical efficiency.

"Clear!" shouted the lead tactical commander, lowering his visor as he stepped into the main foyer.

From the study doorway, Jack Carter stepped out into the open. He raised empty hands slowly above his shoulders, offering no resistance, his eyes locked steadily on the commander.

"I'm Jack Carter," he said, his voice carrying effortlessly over the fading chaos. "You're looking for me. Leave everyone else out of this."

The commander motioned for two operators to move in and secure him with heavy tactical zip-ties. As they pushed Jack forward toward the exit, a sleek black town car rolled slowly up the ruined driveway, stopping right at the shattered threshold.

The rear door opened, and a man in an immaculate charcoal overcoat stepped out. It was Director Vance—not Marcus, not Victor, but their eldest brother, Arthur Vance, senior director of federal oversight and the hidden hand behind the entire syndicate.

Arthur stopped a few feet from Jack, a cold, triumphant smile playing across his lips.

"Well, well, well, Jack," Arthur sneered, adjusting his cuffs. "Twenty years on the run, playing warlord in a stone fortress, and it all ends because of a stubborn little boy who didn't know when to stay in his lane."

Jack didn't flinch. He stared straight into Arthur's eyes, a calm, terrifying smile touching his lips. "You think you won, Arthur?"

Arthur chuckled darkly. "I have the file. I have your confession. You're going away to a black site where no one will ever find you again."

"Check your phone, Director," a clear, steady voice called out from the grand staircase.

Arthur spun around. Ethan stood halfway down the stairs, flanked by Sarah, Frank, and Caleb. Ethan held a secured tablet in his hand, his expression carved from unyielding granite.

"What is this nonsense?" Arthur snapped, pulling out his encrypted smartphone.

The screen was lit up with notifications. Every major news network alert banner flashed the exact same breaking headline: MASSIVE FEDERAL COVER-UP EXPOSED: OPERATION OMEGA DOCUMENTS LEAKED TO PUBLIC DOMAIN. Below it, real-time data streams were broadcasting unredacted internal agency memos detailing Arthur Vance's direct involvement in framing Jack Carter twenty years ago.

Arthur's face drained of all color. His hands began to tremble as he scrolled frantically through the public data feeds. "No... no, that's impossible. The firewall was impenetrable—"

"You can't delete the truth once it belongs to the world, Arthur," Ethan said, stepping down the stairs into the foyer. "You thought my father's death was the end of the story. You thought you could bury your crimes under decades of red tape." Ethan stopped inches from the corrupt Director, his eyes burning with righteous fury. "You forgot one thing."

"What's that?" Arthur whispered, panic finally breaking his composure.

"Wolves run in packs," Ethan said coldly. "And we protect our own."

Sirens wailed in the distance—not local police, but state troopers and federal investigators responding to the massive public data leak triggered automatically by Daniel's secure terminal. Within seconds, a dozen unmarked federal vehicles converged on the lodge, their blue and red lights flashing against the stone walls.

The federal agents holding Jack instinctively stepped back, looking uncertainly between Arthur Vance and the incoming reinforcements.

"Director Arthur Vance," a senior federal inspector announced, stepping out of the lead cruiser with a fresh arrest warrant in hand, flanked by armed marshals. "You are under arrest for high treason, obstruction of justice, and conspiracy to commit murder."

As the heavy steel cuffs snapped around Arthur Vance's wrists, dragging him away in disgrace past the flashing cameras of emergency media outlets that had already arrived, the corrupt Director stared in absolute defeat at Ethan and Jack.

The storm had broken. And standing in the ruins of the shattered front hall, the Brooks family remained entirely unbroken.
