Chapter 10 - Blood and Boardrooms

An hour later, under the cover of a dense fog rolling off the Delaware River, three tactical police vans and Graham’s black SUV pulled into an abandoned industrial corridor in Chester, Pennsylvania.
Rising out of the mist was the imposing silhouette of an old four-story red brick academy surrounded by an eight-foot chain-link fence topped with razor wire.
Inside the rear command vehicle, Chloe Vance adjusted her tactical vest while reviewing thermal imaging scans of the building provided by police drones.
"We have confirmed heat signatures of thirty-eight juveniles on the second floor," Chloe reported to her team. "We also have eight heavily armed private guards stationed at the front entrance and loading dock. Victor Vance’s luxury sedan is parked near the rear exit. He's executing his liquidation protocol right now."
Graham sat beside Evie in the backseat, making sure her seatbelt was secure. "You stay right here in the armored SUV with Marcus, Evie. No matter what you hear, do not come outside."
Evie grabbed his coat sleeve, her big brown eyes wide with concern. "Be careful, Graham. Victor Vance is meaner than Uncle Daniel."
Graham squeezed her small hand reassuringly. "I have something strong protecting me tonight, kiddo."
"What?" she asked.
"You," Graham smiled gently. He reached into his pocket, pulled out the framed deli paper wrapper, and tucked it inside his inner vest pocket right over his heart.
"Tactical team, move in!" Chloe ordered over her radio.
Shattering tear gas canisters exploded through the second-floor windows, followed by the deafening thunder of flashbang grenades. Tactical officers swarmed the grounds, breaching the front doors with battering rams.
Shouts and gunfire echoed through the foggy night air as police engaged Victor Vance’s mercenaries. Graham followed closely behind the secondary entry team, his heart pounding in his chest.
He burst into the central hallway, where heavy smoke filled the air. Terrified children were being guided down the stairs by tactical officers.
Suddenly, Graham caught sight of a burly man in a trench coat dragging a small, tearful six-year-old girl toward a reinforced rear exit door—Victor Vance.
"Vance! Freeze!" Graham shouted, running down the corridor.
Victor Vance spun around, pulling a small revolver from his pocket and firing wildly. The bullet struck the brick wall inches from Graham’s head, spraying mortar dust.
Graham didn't flinch. Driven by pure, relentless determination, he charged forward, tackling Victor Vance to the concrete floor. The revolver clattered away across the hallway.
Vance snarled, throwing a heavy punch that struck Graham across the cheekbone. Graham absorbed the blow, wrapped his arms around Vance’s shoulders, and pinned the corrupt politician against the iron door frame with brute strength.
"It's over, Vance!" Graham roared, holding him pinned as Detective Chloe Vance and three armed tactical officers rushed down the hall with rifles raised.
"Don't shoot! I surrender!" Vance yelled, trembling as officers shoved him face-down onto the floor and slammed handcuffs on his wrists.
Graham stood up, breathing heavily, wiping blood from his cut lip. He turned to the crying six-year-old girl cowering near the wall.
"Are you Lily?" Graham asked gently, crouching down and offering his hand.
May you like
The little girl sniffled, looking at him fearfully. "Yes... who are you?"
Graham offered a warm, reassuring smile. "I’m a friend of Evie’s. She sent me to bring you home.
