Chapter 12 - Truth in the Safe

The marina at Penn’s Landing was shrouded in heavy rain and howling coastal winds. Massive waves crashed against the wooden piers as private yachts rocked violently in their berths.
A sleek ninety-foot luxury yacht named *The Meridian Sovereign* sat anchored at the end of Pier 4, its engines humming loudly as dark diesel smoke belched from its exhaust ports.
Daniel Rowan, wearing a water-soaked raincoat over his orange prison jumpsuit, sprinted down the slippery wooden dock holding a heavy waterproof duffel bag. Behind him, two mercenary drivers guarded the ramp with assault rifles.
"Cast off the lines!" Daniel screamed at the yacht’s captain on the bridge. "Get us out into international waters right now!"
Suddenly, a black SUV slammed through the marina security gate, tires screeching across the wet wooden planks of Pier 4.
The SUV crashed directly into the back of one of the mercenary vehicles, disabling it instantly. Graham Vale leapt out of the driver's side door into the pouring rain.
"Daniel!" Graham’s voice thundered over the sound of the howling wind and roaring ocean waves.
Daniel froze on the gangway ramp, turning around in disbelief. "Graham?! Are you insane?! You followed me here alone?!"
"It ends here, Daniel!" Graham shouted, taking slow, deliberate steps down the dock toward the yacht.
Daniel snatched an assault rifle from his surviving guard's hands, pointing it directly at Graham’s chest. His eyes were bloodshot, unhinged, and filled with manic fury.
"Get back, Graham!" Daniel screamed over the storm. "I built that company with you! I deserved half of everything! You were weak! You let your dying wife ruin your focus! I took what was mine!"
Graham kept walking forward, unflinching, his chest exposed to the barrel of the gun.
"You didn't take what was yours, Daniel," Graham said calmly, his voice cold and steady. "You stole from a grieving man, you stole from an orphaned child, and you sold your soul for numbers on a computer screen. Look at you now. You're running like a rat in the rain."
"I have eighty million dollars waiting for me in Zurich!" Daniel shrieked. "I win, Graham! I always win!"
"Check your phone, Daniel," Graham said simply.
Daniel hesitated, his hands shaking violently as he pulled an encrypted satellite phone from his coat pocket. The screen flashed with red alerts from Swiss Banking Authorities: ALL ACCOUNTS FROZEN BY FEDERAL ORDER.
"No... no!" Daniel whimpered, dropping the phone onto the dock. "My money... my money!"
"Arthur Pendelton filed the international asset seizure order three hours ago, Daniel," Graham said softly. "You have nothing left. No firm. No money. No legacy."
In a fit of wild, desperate rage, Daniel raised the rifle to squeeze the trigger.
"Drop the weapon!" Chloe Vance’s voice bellowed from the marina roof.

A sniper shot echoed through the night air. The rifle exploded out of Daniel’s hands, sending him tumbling backward onto the wet deck of the yacht.
Tactical officers swarmed the gangway, pinning Daniel to the deck as he screamed and cursed in total defeat.
