Chapter 4 - The Midnight Confession

The hours before dawn bled into a blur of meticulous preparation. I spent the remainder of the night reviewing every financial statement, every backdated board resolution, and every shell company transfer log that Adrian had extracted from the Halden Group's auxiliary servers.

At 6:30 AM, a personal stylist arrived at the penthouse bearing garment bags and professional cosmetics. By 8:15 AM, I stood before the full-length mirror in the master dressing room, unrecognizable as the terrified girl who had fled into the storm less than twelve hours earlier.

I wore a bespoke emerald-green Gucci pantsuit that radiated absolute authority. My hair was pulled back into a severe, elegant chignon, and my heels clicked against the hardwood floor with precise rhythm. The cuts on my feet were concealed inside custom leather pumps, and the bandages on my palms were hidden beneath skin-toned medical tape.

Adrian stepped into the dressing room, dressed impeccably in a charcoal custom-tailored suit with a dark silk tie. He paused, his dark eyes sweeping over me with clear approval.

"Perfection," he murmured, walking up behind me and looking at our reflections in the mirror. "They won't know what hit them."

"Let's go," I said, turning to face him, my heart hammering a fierce, steady rhythm against my ribs.

We rode the private elevator down to the subterranean parking garage, where Adrian's armored Maybach waited with the engine idling. As the car glided out into the crisp morning traffic toward downtown, I stared out the tinted windows at the soaring glass towers of the financial district. For two years, this city had belonged to Celeste Halden, Victor Shaw, and their corrupt inner circle. By noon, the entire corporate landscape would bear a new name.

"Remember," Adrian said quietly as the car turned onto Wall Street, "when Celeste tries to regain control, don't argue with her. Let her hang herself with her own arrogance. I'll be right beside you every second of the way."

"I don't need protection, Adrian," I replied, turning my head to meet his gaze with an icy, unblinking smile. "I need a front-row seat to their destruction."
