Chapter 14 - THE PRESS CONFERENCE

By eleven-thirty, the front gates of Ridgecrest Estates were swarming with reporters, camera crews, and curious onlookers. Microphones jammed the wrought-iron fence, and flashbulbs popped like distant lightning against the limestone facade.

At exactly twelve noon, the heavy oak doors swung open.

Nathan Sterling and I walked out side-by-side. The contrast was striking: Nathan in his impeccable corporate armor, and I in my stark white tailored dress, projecting absolute, unyielding authority. The flashing cameras blinded the courtyard as gasps rippled through the press corps.

Nathan stepped up to the microphone array, raising his hand for silence.

"Good afternoon, ladies and gentlemen," Nathan’s voice resonated clearly across the microphones. "Today, Sterling Holdings and the Vance Estate are announcing a historic merger, combining our assets into a unified trust dedicated to modern development and historical restitution."

Shouts erupted from the reporters instantly.

"Mr. Sterling! Isn't this the same estate currently facing an emergency injunction from Daniel Montgomery?" shouted a reporter from the financial wire.

I stepped forward, taking the microphone from Nathan’s hand. My voice carried over the murmurs, crisp, calm, and absolute.

"Daniel Montgomery’s injunction is built on forged affidavits and frozen offshore accounts," I stated clearly into the microphones. "Furthermore, as of this morning, my legal team has filed criminal charges against Daniel Montgomery and Beatrice Vance for conspiracy to commit corporate extortion and document falsification."

A stunned silence fell over the courtyard.

"This estate was built on blood and deceit forty years ago," I continued, my gaze fixed directly on the camera lenses broadcasting live across the nation. "Today, that cycle ends. We are releasing all contested claims, establishing a ten-million-dollar community restitution fund, and moving forward into a new era of transparency."

Down the street, parked across from a coffee shop, Daniel sat in his rented sedan watching the live broadcast on his cracked phone. His face turned purple with impotent rage as he watched me stand victorious on the steps of the empire he had tried to steal.

"She... she ruined me..." Daniel whispered, slamming his fist against the steering wheel until the horn blared into the afternoon air.
