Chapter 20 - THE OPEN HORIZON

The sun dipped below the horizon, painting the sky in shades of deep amber, violet, and gold. From the front gates of Ridgecrest Estates, the road stretched out endlessly into the vibrant city lights—open, untamed, and full of infinite possibility.

I stood on the marble steps of the grand entrance, looking out over the sprawling grounds that had once been a prison of expectations, and were now a kingdom of my own making.

My phone buzzed in my pocket one last time. I pulled it out and looked at the screen. An automated notification from a news blog flashed across the display, featuring a retrospective article on the great Montgomery fall from grace.

I swiped the notification away, turned off the phone, and slipped it back into my pocket.

Let them write whatever stories they wanted. Let the internet speculate on what happened behind closed doors. The past was burned away, the debts were settled, and the future belonged entirely to me.

I turned back toward the grand oak doors, the warm light spilling out from the entryway, welcoming me home.

And as the heavy wooden doors clicked shut behind us, the story didn't end—it simply waited for the next chapter.
