Chapter 10 - The Fall of the Syndicate

The subterranean server vault was silent except for the low hum of cooling fans and Vance's heavy, terrified breathing.

Baron Ronald Vance, once the most powerful puppeteer in global high finance, lay groveling on the cold tile floor, staring up at the barrel of Marcus Carter’s gun.

"Marcus... please..." Vance begged, his aristocratic composure completely shattered. "We can make a deal! Think of the money! Hundreds of billions! I can give you control of the entire Obsidian network! You and your son can rule the financial world!"

Liam stepped down from the terminal console, holding the small black drive containing the Black Ledger. "We don't want your bloody empire, Vance. We just want our lives back."

Marcus looked down at Vance with cold disgust. "Your money can't buy back the five years I spent away from my family, Vance. It can't buy back the lives of the people you destroyed."

"If you kill me, Marcus, my syndicate will hunt you to the ends of the earth!" Vance threatened, his voice cracking with desperate anger. "You'll never be safe! Your wife, your son... they will die!"

"I’m not going to kill you, Ronald," Marcus said calmly, lowering his weapon slightly. "That would be too merciful."

Marcus pressed a button on his tactical earpiece. "Sarah, execute command 'Doomsday'."

Three thousand miles away, in a secure legal facility in New York, Sarah Sterling pressed *ENTER* on a master terminal.

Instantly, the entire contents of the Black Ledger—decades of secret offshore accounts, political bribery records, illegal weapons deals, and assassination contracts—were broadcast live to every major law enforcement agency, investigative journalism outlet, and government portal across forty countries simultaneously.

Within seconds, alarms began ringing on Vance’s encrypted personal phone. Text notifications flooded his screen by the hundreds:

*ALERT: SWISS BANK ACCOUNTS FROZEN BY INTERPOL.*

*ALERT: FEDERAL ARREST WARRANT ISSUED BY US DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE.*

*ALERT: FRENCH AUTHORITIES SEIZING ALL MONACO ASSETS.*

Vance stared at his phone in total disbelief. His entire empire—built over forty years of corruption, fear, and bloodshed—had dissolved into dust in less than thirty seconds.

"You... you ruined me..." Vance whispered, tears of rage welling in his eyes. "You destroyed everything..."

"No, Ronald," Marcus corrected, stepping back as heavy footsteps echoed down the corridor outside the vault. "You destroyed yourself when you targeted my family."

A squad of heavily armed London Metropolitan Police Officers and Interpol agents burst into Server Room 7, weapons raised.

"Hands where we can see them! Nobody move!" the police captain shouted.

Marcus and Liam raised their hands calmly, stepping aside. Knox did the same, offering no resistance.

"Officer!" Vance screamed, scrambling toward the police captain on his hands and knees. "Arrest them! Arrest Marcus Carter! He's a terrorist! He broke into my bank!"

The Interpol captain walked past Marcus and stood directly over Vance, pulling out a pair of steel handcuffs.

"Baron Ronald Vance," the captain declared in a stern British accent. "You are under arrest for treason, mass financial corruption, racketeering, and ordering multiple international homicides. You have the right to remain silent."

"What?!" Vance shrieked as the cold steel clinked around his wrists. "Do you know who I am?! I own your superiors! Call the commissioner!"

"The commissioner was arrested ten minutes ago, Vance," the captain replied coldly, dragging Vance up by his arms. "Your network is gone."

As Vance was led away, screaming incoherently like a madman, the Interpol captain turned to Marcus Carter. He offered a respectful nod.

"Mr. Carter," the captain said. "The Director of Interpol called personally. All charges against you and your son have been officially dropped. The Department of Justice extends its sincere apologies for the... inconvenience."

Marcus smiled faintly. "Thank you, Captain. We just want to go home."

Liam walked up beside his father, looking at Knox, who was standing quietly in the corner, waiting for his own arrest.

Marcus walked over to Knox, looking his old friend in the eye.

"I spoke to the federal prosecutor, Knox," Marcus said gently. "Because you assisted us in bringing down Vance, your charges will be reduced. And your daughter’s medical bills in Zurich... they’ve been paid in full by the Carter Foundation."

Knox choked back a sob, bowing his head in deep gratitude. "Thank you, Marcus... I'm so sorry for what I did."

May you like

"Take care of your daughter, Knox," Marcus said, patting his shoulder before turning to Liam. "Come on, son. Let's go home."
