Chapter 9 - The Heist at Sovereign Bank

The Royal Sovereign Bank of London was a massive fortress of neoclassical granite and reinforced glass standing in the heart of London’s financial district.

It was 11:00 PM. The bank was closed to the public, but the interior lights flickered softly behind grand vaulted windows.

A sleek black limousine pulled up to the bank’s private underground entrance. The door opened, and Baron Ronald Vance stepped out, accompanied by Knox and four heavily armed bodyguards. Vance held the recovered Aegis drive in his hands like a holy relic, a triumphant smile plastered across his aristocratic face.

"Incredible work, Knox," Vance said as they walked toward the high-security subterranean elevator. "I must admit, I had my doubts about your loyalty. But delivering Marcus’s prized drive after eliminating him in that warehouse... you have earned your daughter’s complete recovery."

"Just make sure the medical funds are cleared, Vance," Knox said smoothly, keeping his posture stiff and professional. "I did my part."

"Oh, the money is already in Zurich," Vance assured him as the elevator doors closed, descending sixty feet into the earth toward Server Room 7. "Once I link this drive to the Black Ledger, my total control over the global financial market will be absolute. Not even the United States government will be able to touch me."

Meanwhile, three levels above, near the main ventilation duct system, Liam Carter lowered himself down a narrow shaft using a high-tensile climbing rope. He wore a matte-black tactical suit, specialized hacking gear strapped to his chest, and night-vision goggles.

"I’m in position above the server vault, Dad," Liam whispered into his throat microphone.

Outside the bank, parked in an unmarked surveillance van disguised as a plumbing service vehicle, Marcus sat surrounded by computer monitors, monitoring the bank's security feeds.

"Copy that, Liam," Marcus replied. "Vance and Knox have just entered the vault chamber. The moment Vance inserts the Aegis drive into the mainframe, it will initiate a ten-second security override. That’s your window to drop into the ceiling grid and access the master terminal."

"Understood. Ready on your mark," Liam said, checking his digital cipher pad.

Sixty feet below ground, Vance walked into Server Room 7—a massive, climate-controlled vault filled with rows of glowing blue server towers. At the center of the room stood the primary terminal console, illuminated by halogen spotlights.

Vance stepped up to the terminal, inserting his master security keycard. The screen flashed:

*INSERT AUTHENTICATION DRIVE TO INITIATE DATA MERGE.*

Vance smiled, sliding the Aegis drive into the central USB port. "Five years of waiting... finally realized."

*BEEP! BEEP! BEEP!*

Suddenly, the server lights turned from cool blue to flashing emergency red! A loud siren echoed through the subterranean vault!

"What is this?!" Vance demanded, stepping back in confusion. "System override? What's happening?!"

The terminal screen flashed with bright red text:

*WARNING: TROJAN PROTOCOL ACTIVATED. ALL BLACK LEDGER DATA IS BEING DOWNLOADED AND TRANSMITTED TO AN EXTERNAL SERVER.*

"It's a trap!" Vance screamed, turning to Knox. "You fool! What did you do?!"

Before Vance's bodyguards could draw their weapons, Knox threw his shoulder into Vance, knocking him to the floor, and tackled the nearest guard, wrestling his gun away!

At that exact moment, the heavy ceiling panel directly above the central terminal shattered downward!

Liam Carter dropped out of the ceiling on a high-speed winch cable, landing softly on his feet right on top of the main console!

"Looking for this, Vance?" Liam shouted, instantly plugging his high-speed hacking device into the terminal's secondary bus.

"Shoot him! Kill the boy!" Vance shrieked from the floor, scrambling backward.

The remaining three bodyguards raised their assault rifles toward Liam, but before they could fire, the heavy steel vault door was blown off its hinges with a thunderous blast!

*BOOM!*

Marcus Carter stepped through the smoke, wielding two silenced weapons, his eyes blazing with tactical fury. He fired six precise rounds in less than two seconds, dropping all three bodyguards before they could pull their triggers!

Liam’s hands flew across his hacking pad as the progress bar hit 80%... 90%... 100%!

*DOWNLOAD COMPLETE: 100% OF THE BLACK LEDGER EXTRACTED.*

"Got it!" Liam yelled, snatching his drive from the console. "The entire Black Ledger is ours!"

Vance lay on the polished floor, staring at Marcus in absolute, paralyzed horror. "You... you were dead... I saw the report!"

Marcus stepped over the fallen guards, stopping right in front of Vance, pointing his weapon directly at Vance’s head.

"I told you, Ronald," Marcus said softly. "Dead men don't forget debts."
