Chapter 20 - A New Horizon

One year later.
The summer sun shone brilliantly over the riverfront campus of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge. The courtyard was alive with students walking between historical brick academic halls, laughing, carrying books, and discussing advanced research projects.
Liam Carter stepped out of the Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory, holding a leather satchel over his shoulder. He was nineteen now, taller, broader, his posture radiating quiet confidence and brilliant intellect.
He walked toward a sunny bench near the riverbank, where his mother, Eleanor, and his father, Marcus, were sitting, enjoying the summer breeze.
"How was the final defense on your advanced cryptography thesis, Liam?" Eleanor asked eagerly, standing up to give him a warm hug.
"A-plus," Liam smiled, kissing her cheek. "The professor said my practical model on decentralized security architecture was ten years ahead of current industry standards."
"Of course it is," Marcus smiled, shaking his hand proudly. "You designed half of it while hiding in a London safehouse."
They shared a warm, lighthearted laugh together—a family whole, happy, and completely free.
Over the past twelve months, the Carter Foundation had reshaped global technology. The liquidation of the Apex Consortium's black reserves had successfully funded clean energy grids in over forty developing nations, eradicated predatory debt networks, and established open-source educational platforms worldwide.
Arthur Vance, the ghostly fourth founder who Victor Grant had warned them about, had been quietly located by Marcus and Liam’s new intelligence network six months prior. But instead of an explosive war, Marcus and Liam had used their public influence and financial leverage to strip Arthur’s hidden East Asian shell companies clean, forcing him into permanent, powerless exile under international surveillance.
The shadows were gone. The threat was finally, truly over.
"Are you ready for lunch, hero?" Eleanor asked, taking Marcus's arm. "We reserved a table at that seafood restaurant by the harbor."
"You two go ahead," Liam said, pulling a sleek BMX bicycle out from the nearby bike rack. "I'm going to ride down the river path and meet you there in twenty minutes."
Marcus looked at the custom matte-black BMX bike—a gift he had personally built for Liam on his nineteenth birthday. It was far advanced from the simple bicycle Liam had ridden down Oakwood Drive two years ago.
"Keep an eye on your mirrors, son," Marcus joked with a wink.
Liam laughed, stepping onto the pedals. "Don't worry, Dad. I know how to handle the road now."
Liam kicked off, gliding smoothly along the paved riverside boulevard. The sun painted the gentle waves of the Charles River in shimmering gold. The wind blew through his hair, refreshing and clean.
He looked into his rearview mirror attached to the handlebars.
Behind him, there were no dark sedans. No silent stalkers. No shadows of revenge.
Only the clear blue sky, the open road ahead, and a future brighter than anything his family had ever dreamed of.
May you like
Liam smiled, pedaled faster, and rode forward into the sunshine, victorious and free.
