Chapter 16 - The Wedding in the Sun

The autumn breeze carried the crisp, invigorating scent of falling leaves and salty ocean air across the estate. It was late September, and the grand gardens behind the mansion had been transformed into an ethereal wonderland of white roses, golden autumn foliage, and soft velvet seating.

Unlike the lavish, performative galas that usually dominated Long Island high society, this wedding was entirely intimate, private, and filled with genuine love. There were no press photographers, no high-society columnists, and no political figures invited to bolster corporate reputations.

The guest list was small: close childhood friends of Nathaniel, the estate’s loyal new domestic staff, Marion Fields, and Victoria Reed.

Victoria had returned from Florida three days prior, a completely changed woman. The pride and cold arrogance that had defined her for decades had been burned away by the hard lessons of the past year. She had personally spent hours apologizing to Grace, presenting her with a family heirloom brooch as a humble token of acceptance.

Inside the bride's suite on the second floor, Grace stood before the full-length mirror, taking a sharp breath.

She wore an exquisite, custom-designed silk wedding dress featuring a soft lace bodice, long elegant sleeves, and a sweeping train that caught the warm sunlight. Her auburn hair was styled in an elegant, loose bun pinned with white orchid blossoms. She looked radiant, powerful, and utterly breathtaking.

A quiet knock sounded at the door, and Victoria Reed stepped into the room.

Victoria stopped dead in her tracks, her eyes glistening with genuine tears as she looked at Grace. "Oh, Grace... you are absolute perfection."

Grace offered a warm, serene smile. "Thank you, Victoria."

Victoria walked over, carefully pinning the antique pearl-and-diamond brooch near Grace’s collarbone. "I used to think that legacy was built on bloodlines, wealth, and societal titles," Victoria whispered, her voice cracking with rare vulnerability. "I was wrong. Legacy is built on love, courage, and family. Thank you for saving my son and my grandson. Welcome to the family, my daughter."

Grace hugged the older woman warmly, cementing a final reconciliation that closed the painful wounds of the past.

Down in the garden, music played softly from a live string quartet. Nathaniel stood at the end of the flower-covered altar, looking impeccably handsome in a bespoke dark navy tuxedo. He was visibly nervous, his hands fidgeting with his cuff-links—a rare sight for a billionaire who had negotiated multi-billion-dollar corporate acquisitions without blinking.

Standing beside him as his best man was young Oliver, dressed in a tiny matching navy tuxedo with a tiny bow tie. The three-year-old boy took his duty exceedingly seriously, holding a velvet ring box in his hands with extreme care.

The string quartet transitioned into a slow, majestic processional.

Nathaniel raised his head, and the moment he saw Grace emerge onto the flower-strewn aisle, his breathing stopped entirely. His dark eyes locked onto her, filled with a love so profound, so intense, that tears welled up in his eyes, spilling freely down his cheeks.

Grace walked down the aisle with total confidence, her eyes fixed entirely on the man who had fought for her, believed in her, and given her a true home.

When she reached the altar, Nathaniel took her hands in his. His touch was warm, trembling with overwhelming emotion.

"You are the most beautiful sight I have ever seen in my life," Nathaniel whispered fiercely.

The ceremony was brief, beautiful, and deeply moving. When the time came for the exchange of vows, Nathaniel looked deep into Grace’s eyes.

"Grace," Nathaniel said, his voice echoing clearly across the garden. "I give you my hand, my heart, and my unconditional love. I promise to stand by you in every storm, to honor your dreams, to protect your peace, and to love you until my final breath."

Grace’s voice was clear and radiant as she replied. "Nathaniel, I give you my life and my devotion. I promise to love you, to cherish our family, and to stand by your side through every joy and trial that awaits us. You are my heart, my home, and my endless safe haven."

The minister smiled warmly. "By the power vested in me, I now pronounce you husband and wife. Nathaniel, you may kiss your bride."

Before Nathaniel could lean in, Oliver loudly tugged his father’s trousers, calling out loudly to the entire assembly.

"Daddy! Don't forget to say yes!"

The entire garden burst into joyful, ringing laughter.

Nathaniel laughed warmly, scooping Oliver up in one arm, pulling Grace into his other arm, and pressing a deep, passionate kiss to his new wife’s lips as the guests erupted into joyous applause.

Oliver threw his tiny arms around both of their necks, cheering happily. "We did it! We did it!"

Hand in hand, holding their son between them, Nathaniel and Grace walked back down the aisle into the brilliant autumn sunlight, stepping together into a future paved with absolute love and unshakeable peace.
