Chapter 19 - The Flight to Geneva

The private Gulfstream G650 banked smoothly over the snow-capped peaks of the Swiss Alps before touching down softly on the private tarmac of Geneva International Airport. The crisp, clean mountain air hit my face as I descended the aircraft stairs, dressed in a sharp white Chanel trench coat and dark sunglasses, with Margaret Shaw right by my side.

A sleek black Mercedes Maybach was already idling by the edge of the runway, its driver holding the door open for us. Within twenty minutes, we were gliding quietly through the pristine, wealth-laden streets of downtown Geneva toward the headquarters of Oakhaven Maritime—an understated, heavily secured glass-and-steel monolith overlooking Lake Geneva.

The board of Oakhaven Maritime had scheduled an emergency closed-door meeting for 3:00 PM to discuss 'unauthorized market intrusion by Laurent Maritime.' They expected a defensive delegation of lawyers to negotiate a quiet regional truce.

They didn't expect the CEO of Laurent Maritime to walk through their front doors uninvited, forty-five minutes early, with the complete ownership files of their primary European subsidiaries already tucked under her arm.

We walked past the startled front desk security, bypassed the private elevator queue using my executive override credentials, and stepped directly into the thirty-second-floor executive boardroom without knocking.

Around the massive quartz conference table sat five elderly European directors of Oakhaven Maritime, their faces freezing in absolute shock as the double doors swung open.

Julian Beaumont, the managing chairman of Oakhaven, slowly stood up from his chair, his hands gripping the edge of the quartz table. 'Evelyn Laurent? What is the meaning of this? You are not scheduled to meet with the board until—'

'I skipped the appointment, Julian,' I interrupted smoothly, walking right up to the head of the table and placing my leather portfolio down with a sharp, echoing thud. 'In the global shipping game, waiting for an invitation is for subordinates.'

Julian’s face flushed with indignation. 'This is a private European conglomerate! You have no standing here! Security—'

'Your security downstairs was dealt with the moment our legal team froze your primary Swiss banking liquidity accounts at 2:45 PM,' Margaret Shaw stated coolly, dropping a stack of certified asset-freeze warrants beside his coffee cup.

The color drained entirely from Julian Beaumont’s face. He looked wildly around the table at his fellow directors, who were staring down in sheer terror at the financial documents spread before them.

'You... you frozen our accounts?' Julian stammered, his voice cracking. 'On what grounds?!'

'On the grounds of international cartel collusion, tax evasion, and illegal market manipulation across three continents,' I replied, leaning forward, resting my knuckles on the quartz table, locking my gaze onto his terrified eyes. 'You sent me a nice little warning letter from Geneva last week, Julian. I decided to deliver my reply in person.'

The boardroom went dead silent. The titans of European maritime finance, who had ruled the shadows for decades, realized too late that they had poked the wrong lion.

'What do you want?' Julian whispered, defeated before negotiations even began.

'I don't negotiate with shadows, Julian,' I said quietly, straightening up and pulling on my leather gloves. 'I absorb them. You have forty-eight hours to sign over your controlling shares to Laurent Maritime, or I hand these files directly to the Swiss federal prosecutor and let you rot in a cell right beside your American counterparts.'

I turned around, walking toward the double doors without looking back.

May you like

'Welcome to the new world,' I murmured as the doors clicked shut behind us.
