Chapter 14 - The Syndicate's Final Stand

The threat from Victor Vance was real, and the federal task force knew it. Detective Miller placed my apartment building under 24-hour armed surveillance, but I refused to cower indoors like a prisoner.

Instead, I played a dangerous game of my own. Using my father’s architectural network, I leaked a false financial document to a compromised broker within Victor’s syndicate—suggesting that the master key and offshore transfer codes for the family trust were stored in a physical safety deposit box at the downtown Federal Reserve branch.

It was bait. And Victor Vance, desperate for liquidity while running from federal indictments, took it.

Two nights later, the surveillance feed outside my building showed a black unmarked van idling near the corner. Three men wearing tactical gear stepped out, slipping through the service entrance of the underground parking garage.

What they didn't know was that the garage had been converted into a tactical trap. As soon as the heavy metal security gates locked shut behind them, federal marshals and SWAT units flooded the levels from both ends.

The shootout was brief and decisive. Outnumbered and outgunned, Victor Vance’s enforcers dropped their weapons within seconds before hitting the cold concrete floor.

And leading the tactical team in handcuffs moments later, pushed against the hood of a cruiser with a bruised ego and a terrified expression, was Victor Vance himself.
