Chapter 19 - The Final Thread

The revelation on the old micro-SD card sent a chilling shockwave through my spine. Ryan hadn't just targeted me on a whim of greed or marital discord; the entire relationship—from our first accidental meeting at a charity gala to our wedding vows—had been a meticulously executed trap orchestrated jointly by Ryan and Diane from day one.
I forwarded the file directly to Detective Miller with a single note attached: *'To ensure no appeals find a loophole.'*
Miller called me within ten minutes, his voice bursting with disbelief. 'Good God, Melissa. This proves premeditation dating back before you even met him. This completely shuts down any potential post-conviction relief or sentence reduction appeals they were cooking up with their new appellate lawyers.'
'Make sure it gets entered into the permanent federal record,' I said calmly.

I looked out the window of the study, watching the spring breeze rustle the branches of the oak trees my father had planted decades ago. 'Tell the mayor I’m busy, Detective. I have a clinic to run, and ghosts to finally put to rest.'
