Chapter 16 - The Offshore Conduit

Viktor Sterling’s composure vanished as the federal marshals stepped forward, their tactical weapons pointed directly at his chest. Marcus Hale walked up beside me, holding the live-stream tablet that displayed the direct connection to federal prosecutor's office downtown.
"Viktor Sterling, you are under arrest for racketeering, conspiracy to commit corporate espionage, and orchestrating an illegal corporate takeover," Marcus announced clearly, clicking cuffs onto Viktor's wrists with practiced efficiency.
Viktor didn't struggle. He was too smart, too calculating to fight federal marshals in a tactical trap. Instead, as they hauled him toward the private elevator, he turned his head and looked directly at me with a twisted, chilling smirk.
"You think arresting me solves anything, Elena?" Viktor spoke smoothly over the hum of the descending elevator. "Sovereign Capital is decentralized. The offshore accounts holding your company's reserve liquidity are already moving through three different shell jurisdictions. By morning, Vanguard will be insolvent."
The elevator doors closed, cutting off his laughter.
I stood in the center of the quiet penthouse, my heart pounding against my ribs not from fear, but from adrenaline. I looked at Marcus. "Is he right? Are the reserves actually moving?"
Marcus immediately opened his secure laptop, his fingers flying across the mechanical keys with blinding speed. "Let me check the primary offshore conduit gateway... routing through the Cayman clearinghouse..."
The screen flashed red, then amber, then stabilized into a solid, brilliant green.
"No," Marcus breathed, a grin spreading across his face. "He's bluffing. The moment the federal warrant for racketeering was signed off ten minutes ago, our automated freeze protocols triggered across all international clearinghouses. Sovereign Capital's assets have been seized under the Patriot and International Anti-Corruption Acts. Their entire liquidity network is locked."
I let out a long, shuddering breath, the tension finally leaving my shoulders. The multi-year conspiracy engineered by Apex Global, executed by Daniel and Vanessa, and backed by Viktor Sterling was officially dead in the water.
"Get the press release ready for the morning opening bell," I instructed Marcus, walking back to the window to watch the first pale light of dawn break over the harbor. "We announce the complete restructuring of Vanguard Technologies, the removal of Arthur Sterling from the board, and our acquisition of Apex Global's distressed domestic assets for pennies on the dollar."

Marcus looked at me with profound respect. "You're going to swallow them whole, aren't you?"
"Swallow them whole and spit out the bones," I replied softly, watching the sunrise illuminate the skyline I had fought so hard to protect.
