Chapter 12 - THE WILL

William Whitmore's original will became central to the case.
Thomas's father had changed the family trust shortly before his death.

The reason surprised everyone.

William had discovered Eleanor's financial misconduct.

But he was dying.

Rather than confront her publicly and destroy the company, he created a mechanism to remove her control.

When Thomas had a child, voting power would transfer to a new independent trust.

Evelyn would serve as co-trustee.

Arthur Johnson was named successor trustee.

Arthur stared at the document.

“William named me?”

Thomas nodded.

“You met him twice.”

“Apparently that was enough.”

Evelyn smiled faintly.

“He respected you.”

Arthur remembered William as a quiet, intimidating man.

He had assumed the Whitmore patriarch disliked him.

Again, appearances had lied.

The trust explained everything.

Eleanor could tolerate Evelyn as Thomas's wife.

She could not tolerate Evelyn controlling the family empire.

And she could not tolerate Malik turning two.

The deadline was forty-seven days away.
