Chapter 19 - THE TRIAL

Eleanor's trial began seven months later.
The prosecution presented the lake video.

The courtroom became silent.

On screen, Malik sat in the boat.

Eleanor pushed.

The toddler reached toward her.

“Mama!”

Several jurors looked away.

Thomas did not.

He forced himself to watch every second.

When Evelyn testified, Eleanor stared at her.

Evelyn stared back.

No fear.

No anger.

Only certainty.

“You took three years from me,” Evelyn said.

Eleanor's attorney objected.

The judge overruled.

Evelyn continued.

“But you didn't take my son.”

Arthur closed his eyes.

That mattered more than anything.
