Thomas testified against his mother.
She watched him without blinking.
He described the forged messages.
The false medical reports.
The years he believed Evelyn had abandoned Malik.
Then the prosecutor asked:
“When did you realize your mother had lied?”
Thomas looked toward Evelyn.
“When I saw the lake video.”
“And what did you understand?”
Thomas swallowed.
“That every excuse I had made for her was another door I had closed on the truth.”
Evelyn's eyes filled.
Thomas continued.
“I should have questioned more. I should have protected my wife.”
