The jury deliberated nine hours.
Guilty on kidnapping conspiracy.

Guilty on unlawful confinement-related charges.

Guilty on financial fraud counts.

Guilty on child endangerment.

Other charges remained subject to separate proceedings.

Eleanor stood motionless.

Arthur felt no victory.

Only release.

Outside the courthouse, reporters shouted questions.

Evelyn walked past them.

Thomas carried Malik.

Arthur walked beside them.

A reporter yelled:

“Mrs. Whitmore, what do you want people to know?”

Evelyn stopped.

She turned.

“My name is Evelyn Johnson Whitmore.”

Arthur looked at her.

She continued.
