Chapter 15 - The Naming of Samuel

The following afternoon, the hospital room was quiet and peaceful. The snow outside had stopped, leaving the city glistening under a bright, clear winter sun. Nora rested comfortably in bed, her son sleeping soundly in a transparent acrylic bassinet beside her. Margaret Sloan and Daniel Reyes stopped by to drop off gifts—Daniel bringing a soft stuffed fire truck and a warm blanket, while Margaret brought official legal updates regarding the Ashford estate asset freeze.
After Daniel and Margaret left, Adrian walked into the room carrying a small bag from a local bakery. He pulled up a chair beside the bassinet, looking down at the sleeping infant with a gentle smile. "How are you feeling today, Mom?" Adrian asked softly. "Better than I've felt in three years," Nora replied, her voice soft and serene. "The doctor said we can go home tomorrow afternoon." She looked at the baby, then back at Adrian. "I finalized his birth certificate this morning."

Adrian looked up, a slight hint of curiosity in his eyes. "What did you name him?" "Samuel Blake," Nora revealed, her eyes sparkling with deep affection. "Samuel means 'heard by God.' Because through every second of that terrible fall, every moment I hung from that cable in the rain praying for a miracle... I felt like someone was listening. And then you opened that window."
Adrian felt a lump form in his throat. He looked down at Samuel, who gave a small, sleepy stretch in his bassinet. "It's a beautiful name, Nora. Truly." Nora leaned forward slightly, resting her hand on the edge of the bassinet. "I also filled out the father's section on the legal birth certificate, Adrian." Adrian blinked in surprise, his heart skipping a beat. "Nora... you didn't have to do that. The legal waiver—" "I tore up the legal waiver two weeks ago," Nora interrupted gently, a warm, confident smile gracing her lips. "Samuel deserves a father who loves him, a father who fought for him before he was even born. You are his father, Adrian. Not because of a lab clinic or a DNA strand, but because of who you are."
