Chapter 16 - Unholy Alliance

With the legal battles finally resolved, light returned to the Whitaker estate. The gloomy, suffocating atmosphere that had lingered over the home for decades dissolved, replaced by warmth, laughter, and new beginnings.
Spring arrived in Blackwood, bringing vibrant green shoots and blooming roses to the gardens that Edward Whitaker had tended years ago. Daniel spent his weekends helping Mark restore the old greenhouse in the back garden, replacing shattered glass panes and planting new soil.
"It looks great, Daniel," Mark said, wiping sweat from his brow as he admired their hard work. "Emily wants to plant tomatoes and hydrangeas here next month."
"Dad would have loved this," Daniel smiled, looking out over the blooming garden. "He always said working in the dirt was the best way to clear a troubled mind."
Emily walked out into the garden carrying a tray of fresh lemonade, accompanied by Lily, who was bouncing around in a white summer dress.
"Break time!" Emily called out cheerfully, setting the tray on the wooden garden table. "The doctor said Lily's lung function is completely back to normal! No more inhalers or special treatments needed!"

Mark squeezed Emily tightly, lifting her into a joyful hug while Lily giggled and clapped her tiny hands. "That's the best news we've heard all year!"
