Chapter 10 - The Ghost King's Ledger

Dawn broke over Lake Champlain, painting the icy water in shades of brilliant amber and slate gray. I stood on the balcony of our penthouse study, looking out over the frozen horizon. My phone vibrated with a final status report from Zurich: Sterling Capital had been completely dissolved, its assets restructured into a charitable trust managed directly by Claire in honor of her late father.

Marcus stepped out onto the balcony, holding a secure leather-bound ledger—the original accounting book of the Crown syndicate, dating back four decades.

"Vivian and Paige are in solitary holding," Marcus reported. "Chief Miller has agreed to testify against regional politicians in exchange for a reduced sentence. The entire network of corruption in Vermont has been surgically excised."

"And international operations?" I asked without turning around.

"Running smoothly across all three continents. The syndicates in Marseille and Tokyo have acknowledged the restructuring. They await your command, Ghost King."

"Tell them the Ghost King remains in winter quarters," I replied softly, closing my eyes against the cold wind. "My work here is finished."

Inside the penthouse, the bedroom door clicked open. Claire walked out, wearing a silk robe, her steps steady and strong. The bruises on her face were fading beneath expert medical treatment, but the light in her eyes was entirely new—the radiant confidence of a woman who had reclaimed her heritage and her dignity.

She walked up behind me, wrapping her arms around my waist and pressing her face against my back. I turned around, pulling her gently into my embrace, resting my chin on her dark hair.

"You saved me, Elias," she whispered against my chest. "Not just from the snow... but from all of them."

"I told you long ago, Claire," I murmured, kissing the top of her head. "No one touches what is mine."
