Chapter 15 - The Clearing of a Name

Two weeks later, back in New York City, Evelyn and Gabriel held a massive press conference on the steps of the New York State Supreme Court in Manhattan.
Over fifty journalists, television news crews, and legal scholars gathered under the bright morning sun. Standing beside Gabriel was the Attorney General of New York.
"Today," the Attorney General announced to the crowded plaza, "the State of New York officially issues a full, unreserved posthumous pardon and public apology to the estate of the late Marcus Thorne. Newly uncovered forensic evidence proves Marcus Thorne was framed by corrupt political operatives. His legacy as a pioneer of public architecture is fully restored."
The crowd erupted into applause. Flashbulbs went off continuously.
Gabriel stood at the podium, tears of joy reflecting in his eyes as he spoke about his father’s enduring belief in truth and public service. He then turned the podium over to Evelyn.
"Today is not just about correcting a past wrong," Evelyn announced clearly to the microphones. "Today, we announce the creation of the Marcus Thorne Community Infrastructure Fund, backed by a forty-million-dollar endowment. We will construct affordable housing, legal aid centers, and public parks for working families across New York."
As the journalists shouted questions, Evelyn stepped back, catching Gabriel's eye. He smiled at her—a look filled with profound love, respect, and gratitude.
That evening, a quiet dinner party was held at Evelyn's Brooklyn brownstone to celebrate. Martin Greer, Harold Finch, and close friends gathered in the warm, candlelit dining room.
"To Evelyn Vance," Martin raised his wine glass, his voice filled with pride. "The woman who dismantled a corrupt empire and built a bright future out of its ruins."
"To Evelyn!" everyone cheered, clinking their glasses.
Later that night, after the guests had departed, Evelyn and Gabriel stood on the top balcony of her brownstone, watching the glittering lights of the Manhattan skyline across the East River.
Gabriel stepped behind her, wrapping his arms around her waist, pulling her close against his chest. "You saved me, Evelyn. You gave me back my father's memory."

Evelyn leaned back into his warm embrace, resting her head against his shoulder. "We saved each other, Gabriel. For the first time in my life, I'm not running from the past. I'm excited for tomorrow."
Gabriel reached into his pocket and pulled out a small, velvet box.
