Chapter 16 - The Trap is Sprung

Three weeks later, the financial markets were buzzing with a leaked rumor that V-Tech Holdings’ highly anticipated quantum encryption software had suffered a catastrophic security breach, exposing proprietary algorithms to international competitors. The rumor spread through digital trading forums like wildfire, amplified by coordinated short-selling attacks orchestrated by Syndicate Capital and fueled by the insider documents Marcus Vance had illegally leaked.

Within hours, V-Tech’s stock price began to dip sharply. Panic-sellers flooded the automated exchanges, dumping millions of shares as financial commentators began running breathless segments predicting an imminent market correction for the tech giant.

Inside the fifty-fourth-floor boardroom, the atmosphere was a masterclass in calm calculation. Arthur Sterling stood near the digital displays, watching the red numbers tick downward while sipping a cup of black coffee.

Julian Vance sat at the head of the table, spinning his signature silver coin between his fingers, absolutely unfazed by the multi-billion-dollar market turbulence happening in real-time.

"The short-sellers have committed eighty percent of their liquidity to the downward bet, Julian," Arthur reported, a confident smile breaking across his face. "Syndicate Capital and Marcus Vance took the bait hook, line, and sinker. They've overextended their positions exactly as our predictive algorithms forecasted."

Julian stopped spinning the coin and slammed it down onto the mahogany table with a sharp click.

"Execute Phase Two," Julian commanded, his voice ice-cold and authoritative. "Release our verified security audit logs to the regulatory commission, and simultaneously trigger our automated buy-back protocols across all major exchanges."

"Executing now," Arthur replied, tapping a command sequence into his terminal.

The trap snapped shut with devastating speed. Within thirty minutes of the market panic, V-Tech officially published a cryptographic whitepaper proving not only that their software was entirely secure, but that the leaked rumor was a fabricated, malicious cyber-attack originating from IP addresses directly linked to Syndicate Capital and Marcus Vance’s personal terminal.

Simultaneously, V-Tech's algorithmic buy-backs—backed by the massive, untracked reserves of the Harrison Vance trust—swallowed up every available share on the market, driving the stock price up by fifty-two percent in a single afternoon.

The short-sellers were instantly obliterated. Syndicate Capital lost billions in minutes, facing immediate margin calls they could not cover. And Marcus Vance sat frozen in his office, watching his terminal screen flash red as his entire personal fortune evaporated into thin air.
