Chapter 6 - The Terms of Surrender

Robert Sterling stood up slowly from his chair, his posture slumped, every ounce of his previous authority stripped away by the sheer presence of the young chairman. He placed his hands flat on the table, leaning forward in a gesture of absolute submission.
"Julian... Mr. Vance," Robert began, his voice strained and hesitant. "We acknowledge that mistakes were made. We recognize that our previous executive team—specifically Victoria Vance—acted with unacceptable negligence and unprofessionalism toward you. We are prepared to offer any terms you deem appropriate to rectify this situation."
Julian tilted his head slightly, a cold, humorless smile touching the corners of his lips. He picked up a gold-plated fountain pen from the table and rolled it between his fingers.
"Mistakes were made?" Julian repeated, his tone dripping with iron sarcasm. "Is that what you call institutionalized arrogance, Mr. Sterling? Is that what you call building a corporate culture where employees feel entitled to scream at strangers, throw loose change on the asphalt, and treat human dignity as a disposable commodity?"
Robert swallowed hard, unable to meet the boy's piercing gaze. "She has been fired, Julian. Her contract was terminated immediately. Her shares have been frozen, and her personal assets are currently being audited by our legal compliance team."
"Firing her isn't enough," Julian said quietly, setting the pen down with a sharp click that made several board members flinch. "Victoria Vance represents everything that is rotten about this building. She believed that because she wore an expensive suit and drove a foreign car, she was somehow superior to everyone around her. She forgot a very simple rule of business, Mr. Sterling: never underestimate anyone, because you never know who you're really talking to."
Julian opened a slim leather folder in front of him and slid a single document across the polished mahogany toward Robert.
"Here are my terms," Julian announced, his voice echoing in the dead silence of the room. "First, Apex Global will issue a public, full-page retraction and apology in every major financial newspaper in the country, detailing the exact circumstances of Victoria's misconduct and our corporate restructuring. Second, fifty percent of Apex Global’s voting equity will be transferred immediately to the Vanguard Educational and Social Foundation, managed entirely by my trustees, to fund underprivileged youth programs in the city."
Marcus Vance gasped, slamming his hand onto the table. "Fifty percent? That's highway robbery! You're stripping us of our majority control! We'll become a puppet subsidiary!"
Julian didn't even blink. He turned his cold, dark eyes directly onto Marcus, holding his gaze until the older executive nervously shrank back into his chair.
May you like
"You'll become bankrupt if you don't sign within the next ten minutes, Marcus," Julian replied smoothly, his voice devoid of any emotion. "You hold eighty-five percent of your debt. I can call in those loans before the clock strikes five, forcing every single asset you own into immediate liquidation. You can keep your pride, or you can keep your company. Choose wisely."
Robert Sterling looked around the table at his fellow board members. Every single one of them avoided his eyes. They were beaten, broken, and utterly checkmated. With trembling hands, Robert picked up the gold pen, pulled the document toward him, and signed his name on the dotted line.
