Chapter 3 - The Ultimate Revelation

The silence in the fifty-fourth-floor boardroom was so heavy that the hum of the centralized air conditioning sounded like a roaring jet engine. Victoria stood frozen, her manicured hands gripping the edge of the mahogany table so tightly her knuckles turned ghostly white. Her brain refused to process the visual data in front of her. The street rat. The kid she had screamed at, threatened, and insulted less than an hour ago on the asphalt outside. He wasn't a beggar. He was the owner. He was the majority stakeholder and supreme chairman of Vanguard Tech.

"Good morning, Ms. Vance," the boy spoke, his voice calm, clear, and dripping with an icy sarcasm that cut straight through Victoria's shock. He gave the silver coin on the table one final spin, watching it blur before slamming his palm down on it, stopping its motion dead. "I see you made it to the meeting on time. I must admit, your driving is significantly more aggressive than your punctuality."

Arthur Sterling hurried over, bowing slightly toward the boy before turning to Victoria with a look of sheer panic. "Victoria, may I introduce you to Mr. Julian Vance—"

"Vance?" Victoria gasped, her voice cracking as the horrifying reality began to settle into her brain like wet concrete. "His last name is Vance? But... how? That's my family name!"

"Not your family name, Ms. Vance—my family name," Julian corrected smoothly, leaning back in the oversized leather chair and lacing his fingers together over his stomach. He looked like a young prince presiding over a courtroom of condemned criminals. "My father was Alexander Vance, the founder of Vance Industries before it merged into Apex Global years ago. When he passed away, he left his controlling shares directly to me. Vanguard Tech was a private subsidiary I founded independently using my personal trust fund when I was eleven. And today, your company came crawling to my door asking for a merger to save your sinking stock portfolio."

Victoria felt the blood drain entirely from her face. The room seemed to tilt sideways. All her carefully constructed plans, her decades of ruthless corporate climbing, her untouchable reputation—it was all hanging by a fragile thread, controlled entirely by a teenager she had just humiliated on the public street.

"Julian... please," Victoria stammered, her arrogant facade shattering into a million jagged pieces as she desperately tried to salvage her career. "There's been a terrible misunderstanding. Out on the street... I didn't know who you were! If I had known—"

"If you had known who I was, you would have licked the dust off my shoes instead of screaming at me," Julian interrupted sharply, his dark eyes flashing with a sudden, intense fury that made Victoria recoil. He stood up from the executive chair, smoothing out his simple hoodie. Despite his youthful appearance, his presence was overwhelmingly dominant. "That's even worse, Ms. Vance. That means your respect isn't earned by character or human dignity; it's bought entirely by a corporate title and a bank balance."

Arthur Sterling stepped back, realizing that no power on earth could save Victoria's career now. He kept his head bowed, unwilling to catch Victoria's pleading gaze.

"Mr. Vance—Julian, please listen to me," Victoria whispered, her voice trembling with genuine terror as she took a step toward the desk. "The merger... the board approved it! Apex Global needs this technology! If you walk away now, the stock market will eviscerate our shares, and hundreds of jobs—"

"Then you should have thought about the consequences of your arrogance before you opened your mouth on the street this morning," Julian replied coldly. He reached into his pocket, pulled out the exact tarnished nickel Victoria had thrown at him, and tossed it across the glass table. It skidded across the smooth surface and stopped right in front of her trembling fingers. "The contract of merger is officially cancelled, Ms. Vance. And as for you... consider your employment with Apex Global terminated effective immediately."
