Chapter 3 - The Broadcast

On the massive overhead screens, the crystal-clear waveform of an audio recording began to pulse.
Before anyone could process what was happening, Adrian’s own voice echoed loudly through the ballroom’s state-of-the-art acoustics.
*“Don’t embarrass me again,”* the speakers broadcasted, capturing the exact harsh, venomous tone Adrian had used inside the cathedral.
Then came the unmistakable, sickening wet crack of flesh meeting flesh.
Gasps erupted across the room. Several socialites dropped their champagne flutes, the crystal shattering against the marble floor.
Adrian froze mid-stride, his glass slipping from his fingers and exploding into a sparkling puddle at his feet. His face drained of all color, turning the ash-white shade of a corpse.
“Turn that off!” Celeste shrieked, leaping to her feet, her hands clawing frantically at the air. “Shut down the AV system! Someone cut the power!”
But the tech booth doors were locked from the inside, controlled remotely by my cybersecurity team.
The audio continued rolling, unsparing and brutal.
Greg’s voice filled the room: *“Just slip the share transfer agreement right beneath the marriage certificate, Ade. Once she signs, Halcyon’s twelve percent becomes yours instantly, and we force the rest through the proxy loophole tomorrow morning.”*themed laughter followed—Celeste’s cackle ringing out with chilling clarity.
Whispers surged through the crowd like a wildfire. Prominent investors, politicians, and corporate partners who had been toasting the Vale family moments before now recoiled as if Adrian carried a plague.
“Is that... is that Adrian hitting his bride?” whispered Senator Vance, his eyes wide with utter disbelief as he stared at the pale groom.
“He struck her live at the altar,” muttered another executive, shaking his head in disgust. “And look at those financial documents being discussed. That’s premeditated asset theft.”
Adrian stumbled forward, lunging toward the nearest control panel, his hands shaking violently. “It’s a deepfake! It’s artificial intelligence manipulation orchestrated by a disgruntled employee! Security! Clear the room!”
No security guard moved. Every employee in the room—from the banquet servers to the general manager—stood frozen, watching the downfall of the man who had treated them like dirt for years.
Suddenly, the screens shifted from the audio waveform to a live video feed.
I appeared on screen, sitting comfortably in the mahogany-paneled library of my father’s estate. My hair was loose, falling in soft waves over my shoulders. My cheek still bore the faint, angry red mark of Adrian’s ring, proudly displayed without makeup or apologies.
“Good evening, honored guests,” I said, my voice calm, melodic, and terrifyingly composed.
Adrian stared at the screen, his lips trembling. “Elena... where are you? Turn this off right now or so help me—”
“Or what, Adrian?” I interrupted smoothly, tilting my head. “Will you hit me again? Unfortunately for you, cameras have a terrible habit of capturing the truth when closed doors are forced open.”
“You lying little bitch!” Adrian roared, losing all composure in front of four hundred elite witnesses, lunging directly at the giant screen with his fists raised.
The crowd gasped, recoiling from his psychotic outburst. Flashbulbs from hidden press phones clicked relentlessly, immortalizing his collapse for tomorrow morning’s front pages.
“Save your breath, Adrian,” I continued, my gaze piercing straight through the lens into his soul. “You wanted Halcyon Hotels so badly. You spent two years grooming the poor, quiet orphan girl, believing you were securing a dynasty.”
I leaned forward slightly, resting my chin on my interlocked fingers.
“You forgot one tiny detail, Adrian. Orphan girls grow up. And sometimes, they inherit the kingdom.”
I raised my hand, flashing the true majority shareholder seal directly to the camera.
“Effective immediately, your corporate credit cards are blocked, your office access is revoked, and your position as executive vice president of Halcyon is terminated with cause.”
“Cut the feed!” Celeste screamed, clutching her chest as she collapsed backward into her chair. “Somebody stop her!”
“Enjoy the rest of the reception, everyone,” I smiled sweetly. “Remember—everything has already been paid for. But tomorrow morning at eight sharp, the real audit begins.”

The screen went black. The silence in the grand ballroom was absolute, suffocating, and absolute.
