Chapter 10 - The Boardroom Showdown

By 4:00 PM, the executive boardroom on the top floor of Horizon International was locked down under armed federal security. Two special agents from the Department of Transportation and the Federal Bureau of Investigation stood by the entrance doors.

Julian Brooks sat at the far end of the rosewood conference table, looking supremely confident, sipping an espresso while his lead defense attorney, Richard Sterling, reviewed a stack of legal injunctions.

"Father, this emergency summons is completely absurd," Julian said smoothly, checking his gold cufflink. "You are disrupting company operations based on the wild hallucinations of an illiterate baggage boy who claimed he saw a shadow in the basement."

The boardroom doors swung open.

Harold Brooks entered, walking with powerful, deliberate strides, his mahogany cane striking the floor with rhythmic authority. Walking beside him was Ethan Carter, his hands wrapped in sterile white bandages from the burns he suffered saving the fuel line, wearing a clean, crisp dark suit. Behind them walked Claire Morgan and two federal agents carrying heavy evidence boxes.

"Let me introduce the evidence, Julian," Harold said, taking his seat at the head of the table.

Claire tapped the conference control screen.

The massive high-definition monitors illuminated, displaying crystal-clear 4K security footage recovered from the sub-level maintenance tunnel. The video clearly showed Mark Henderson attaching the sabotage bypass module, pulling a weapon on Ethan, and shouting: *"Julian is taking over whether you like it or not!"*

Julian's smug expression instantly cracked. The coffee cup in his hand trembled slightly.

"That... that proves nothing," Julian's attorney, Richard Sterling, interjected smoothly. "Mark Henderson was a rogue employee acting on his own accord. There is zero paper trail connecting my client to this unfortunate incident."

"Is that so, Mr. Sterling?" Claire Morgan asked with a cold smile.

Claire swiped to the next slide. It displayed bank wire transfers totaling four million dollars from an offshore shell corporation registered in the Cayman Islands under Julian Brooks's name, routed directly into Mark Henderson's private bank account over the past forty-eight hours.

"Furthermore," Claire continued, "federal agents arrested Mark Henderson forty-five minutes ago at a private airstrip attempting to board a charter flight to Costa Rica. Henderson has already signed a full sworn confession implicating Julian Brooks in intentional industrial sabotage, corporate extortion, and attempted murder."

Julian leaped out of his chair, his face turning a ghastly shade of pale green. "Henderson is lying! He’s trying to save his own skin!"

"Sit down, Julian!" James Reynolds roared from across the table. "You endangered three hundred passengers on a commercial airliner just to tank our stock price and force a hostile takeover! You are a disgrace to your father’s name!"

Julian realized the walls were closing in on him. His arrogant facade completely shattered, revealing the desperate, cornered predator beneath.

"You think you’re so righteous, Father?" Julian screamed, his voice turning shrill and hysterical. "You built this company and gave everything to strangers while ignoring your own son! You cared more about every lost traveler in Terminal Three than you ever cared about me! I deserved this company! It belongs to me!"

Harold Brooks looked at his son with a mixture of profound heartbreak and unwavering resolve.

"A company does not belong to the person who inherits it, Julian," Harold said softly, a single tear slipping down his weathered cheek. "It belongs to the people who serve it with love. You never wanted to build Horizon. You only wanted to feed your own endless vanity."

Harold turned to the federal agents.

"Special Agent Miller," Harold said, his voice steady. "Execute the arrest warrant."

The two FBI agents stepped forward, pulling pairs of steel handcuffs from their belts.

"Julian Brooks, you are under arrest for conspiracy to commit industrial sabotage, corporate fraud, and attempted murder," Agent Miller stated, forcing Julian’s hands behind his back and clicking the cuffs shut.

Julian struggled wildly, his expensive suit rumpling as he was hauled toward the doors. As he passed Ethan, Julian leaned in, his eyes blazing with psychopathic hatred.

"This isn't over, Carter!" Julian snarled through clenched teeth. "Apex Global has assets you can't even fathom! My partners will crush you, your sick little sister, and this pathetic airport into dust!"

"Get him out of here," Claire ordered coldly.

As the heavy doors closed behind the disgraced heir, a profound silence filled the boardroom. Harold Brooks bowed his head, resting his face in his hands. Ethan walked over quietly, placing a gentle hand on the old founder's shoulder.

"I’m sorry, Mr. Brooks," Ethan said softly.

Harold looked up, taking Ethan’s bandaged hand in his own. "Don't be sorry, son. You showed me the truth before it was too late. But Julian was right about one thing... Apex Global will not give up easily. The real battle for Horizon’s soul has only just begun."
