Chapter 27 - The Salute of Fifty Thousand Wings

The passing of Harold Brooks was honored not with sorrow, but with the greatest celebration of gratitude in aviation history.
On the day of Harold’s memorial service, at exactly 12:00 PM CST, a historic tribute took place across the global sky: *The Moment of Compassion*.
Across forty-two international airports in North America and sixty-five partner airports worldwide, every single aircraft preparing for departure held its position on the tarmac for two minutes of silent reverence. Over fifty thousand ground crew members, pilots, flight attendants, and air traffic controllers stepped out onto the tarmacs, standing at rigid, respectful attention with their hands over their hearts.
In the skies above Horizon International Airport, four Boeing 777 wide-body passenger jets performed a breathtaking, low-altitude ceremonial flyover in the legendary "Missing Man" formation, trailing plumes of white vapor across the clear blue horizon.
Inside Terminal Three, beside Gate 14 where Harold had fallen and Ethan had knelt, a magnificent life-sized bronze monument was unveiled.
The bronze sculpture depicted Harold Brooks sitting in the wheelchair, smiling warmly as a teenage Ethan Carter handed him a bottle of water.
Beneath the sculpture, carved into pure black granite in bold, gleaming gold letters, were the words:
*THE BOY AT TERMINAL THREE* *Dedicated to Harold and Evelyn Brooks, and to Ethan Carter.* *“Never walk past someone who needs you. Because the greatest journeys don't begin on a runway—they begin with a single act of kindness.”*
Thousands of passengers gathered around the monument, laying hundreds of white orchids and handwritten letters of thanks at the base of the stone.

Ethan stood before the monument, holding his mother’s hand on his left and little Lily’s hand on his right. He looked up at the bronze face of the man who had changed his life forever, touching the gold compass hanging beneath his suit.
"Rest in peace, Mr. Brooks," Ethan whispered. "We will keep the promise alive."
