Chapter 14 - The Midnight Packing Under Police Escort

On Friday night at precisely 11:00 PM, under the supervision of two county sheriff deputies, a professional moving crew arrived at my front gates to clear out the remaining mountain of designer luggage, clothes, and cardboard boxes Daniel and Vanessa had dumped on my driveway days before.

I watched from the second-story window as movers in high-vis vests loaded Gucci garment bags, Louis Vuitton trunks, and cheap plastic storage bins into the back of a rented U-Haul truck paid for by a distant relative of Vanessa who simply wanted the public embarrassment off their doorstep.

A deputy walked up the stone steps, clipboard in hand, and rang the front doorbell.

I opened the door, signing the final property release form confirming that all personal items belonging to the defendants had been removed from my premises.

“That’s the last of it, Mrs. Miller,” the deputy said politely, handing me my copy. “Your property is completely cleared. You shouldn't be bothered by them or their associates ever again.”

“Thank you, Officer,” I replied, thanking him with a warm, genuine smile.

As the U-Haul truck’s tail lights disappeared down the private driveway, turning out toward the main highway, I walked back inside and locked the deadbolt.

I walked into the kitchen, turned on the warm stove burner, and picked up a small saucepan.

It was time to reclaim my kitchen.

I poured in fresh olive oil, crushed garlic cloves, and a handful of fresh rosemary sprigs plucked from my garden. As the fragrant, earthy aroma began to fill the quiet, beautiful room, a profound sense of closure settled over my soul.

The nightmare was over. The parasites were gone.

And the house was finally, undeniably mine again.
