Chapter 10 - The Ultimate Showdown In The Boardroom

The oak-paneled boardroom of Vale North Tower was packed to absolute capacity. Sunlight streamed through the massive glass windows, illuminating the tension thick enough to cut with a knife. At the center of the long mahogany table sat my cousin Evelyn Vance, wearing an immaculate crimson Chanel dress, a smug, triumphant smile plastered across her face.

Flanking her were three disgruntled minority board members she had secretly bought off with promises of executive promotions. When the heavy double doors swung open and I walked in, flanked by Miriam Cross and Marcus Vance, Evelyn's triumphant smirk widened into a predatory grin.

'Well, well, well,' Evelyn purred, leaning back in her leather executive chair and crossing her legs. 'Look who finally decided to show up to her own funeral. Sit down, little cousin. We have a lot of corporate restructuring to discuss.'

I walked calmly to the head of the table—the seat traditionally reserved for the controlling shareholder—and sat down smoothly, my expression completely unreadable. 'Save your breath, Evelyn. You're celebrating an acquisition that was built on stolen sand.'

Evelyn let out a sharp, mocking laugh. 'Stolen? Oh, darling, let's talk about theft. According to my verified thirty-two percent voting block, combined with the proxies of my esteemed colleagues here, I am legally entitled to assume control of Vale North Holdings as the new majority voting bloc. Your controlling shares are officially enjoined pending federal investigation!'

The minority board members murmured in agreement, shifting uncomfortably in their seats as they waited for the gavel to drop.

Instead of panicking, I smiled softly. I turned to Marcus, who stood quietly beside my chair, holding a thick leather briefcase. 'Marcus, would you care to enlighten my dear cousin about the legal validity of her offshore shell companies?'

Evelyn's smug expression flickered for a fraction of a second, her eyes darting nervously toward her brother. 'Marcus... what is he doing here? He's a criminal fugitive!'

'Not anymore, sis,' Marcus said smoothly, stepping forward and unlocking the briefcase. He pulled out a stack of federal immunity documents signed by the United States District Attorney just two hours prior. 'As of six o'clock this morning, I am a cooperating federal witness. And I brought copies of the master registry for all your offshore shell companies.'

Evelyn slammed her hands onto the table, her face losing its smug color. 'You little traitor! Those documents are inadmissible—they were obtained through corporate espionage!'

'Not when they are handed over voluntarily by a co-conspirator under federal protection,' Miriam interrupted sharply, sliding certified transcripts across the table to every board member. 'Furthermore, forensic analysis proves beyond a shadow of a doubt that the capital Evelyn used to purchase her thirty-two percent block was embezzled directly from Vale North operating accounts by Daniel North. Under federal law, stolen assets cannot be used to acquire legal equity.'

Pandemonium erupted in the boardroom. The minority directors gasped, frantically flipping through the federal transcripts and bank statements proving that Evelyn's entire hostile takeover was financed with stolen corporate loot.

Evelyn stood up so fast her chair crashed backward onto the carpet, her face contorted in a mask of absolute fury and panic. 'You think this is over?! I will destroy you! I'll tear this company down to the studs before I let you win!'

Before she could lunge across the table, the heavy boardroom doors swung open once more. This time, two federal agents in dark suits stepped inside, flanked by local police officers.

'Evelyn Vance?' the lead agent announced, flashing a shiny federal badge. 'You are under arrest for conspiracy, money laundering, securities fraud, and receiving stolen corporate property.'

As the cold steel handcuffs clicked around Evelyn's wrists, her screams of rage echoed off the polished oak walls. She struggled violently as the officers hauled her out of the room, her dream of empire completely shattered in a matter of minutes.
