Chapter 15 - The Venetian Acquisition

The private jet touched down smoothly on the tarmac of Marco Polo Airport in Venice under a breathtaking sunset of burnt orange and violet. Julian Vance stood beside me as we descended the airstrip stairs into the warm Italian evening breeze.

'Venice suits you, Catherine,' Julian murmured, handing me my designer sunglasses as a sleek Riva speedboat waited for us at the private dock. 'Though I suspect you aren't here merely to admire the canals and Gothic architecture.'

'Architecture is fascinating, Julian, but I prefer acquiring the land it rests upon,' I replied smoothly, stepping down into the polished mahogany speedboat.

We were in Italy to finalize the acquisition of Verona Holdings, a historic European luxury real estate conglomerate that had fallen into severe financial distress following a series of botched investments by its former directors—coincidentally, distant business associates of my disgraced cousin Evelyn.

By the next morning, we were seated in a magnificent sixteenth-century palazzo overlooking the Grand Canal, facing a panel of aging Italian aristocrats and corporate executives who looked as though they were facing their executioner.

'Signora Vance,' began Count Alberti, the aging chairman of Verona Holdings, his voice trembling slightly as he pushed the final acquisition contract across the inlaid marble table. 'Your reputation precedes you. We realize our conglomerate is on the brink of insolvency, and your terms... are absolute.'

I opened the leather folio, reviewing the terms that granted Vale North Holdings an eighty-five percent controlling interest in the historic European portfolio at a fraction of its market value. It was the ultimate expansion—a global chess move that permanently cemented my dominance across international markets.

'My terms are non-negotiable, Count Alberti,' I stated calmly, looking around the table with unwavering authority. 'We inject fifty million euros in liquidity, restructure the corporate debt, and replace your executive board with my appointed directors.'

The board members exchanged pale, resigned glances before slowly picking up their pens and signing away their legacy to the woman from New York.

As we stepped back out onto the sunlit balcony overlooking the shimmering waters of the Grand Canal, Julian raised his glass of prosecco in a quiet toast.

'To global domination,' Julian smiled, his silver-grey eyes catching the Venetian sun. 'Your father would be immeasurably proud, Catherine.'

I clinked my glass against his, feeling the warm Mediterranean breeze brush against my face. The pain of the past was entirely gone, replaced by the exhilarating reality of an empire built entirely with my own hands.
